Product Description:

This is a simple soft synth that takes input from a connected MIDI device and can play instruments from Soundfonts and DLS files including Apple's default General MIDI sound set. Small but poweful!

What's new in this version:

  • added a funky new icon
  • moved the instruments list into a drawer
  • you can now see and change the current instrument in the window as well as via MIDI
  • fixed the memory leak when opening files
  • the filter cutoff slider now has a more reasonable range
  • the MIDI data handling has been improved to handle multiple messages in a packet, which should mean that:
    • changing instruments using a PC-300 will now work
    • it should no longer lose note starts and stops when overloaded
  • cleaned up and released the source code

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.2
  • Mac OS X 10.1

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.1.2
  • A MIDI interface and OS X drivers
  • A MIDI keyboard

1st start, finally recognizes Note Off messages. But still no CPU overload protection (max. number of voices). Works great with MidiPipe. :-)

SimpleSynth ReviewVery useful. But… - Version: 0.6, 9/11/2002 05:29AM PST

I always have to start it twice in order to get sound out of it (CPU bar shows that it receives MIDI even after the first start - but no sound). Also it would be nice to define the maximum number of voices (32 for instance). This could prevent CPU overloads on slower machines.

very nice programme, simple is beautiful sometimes. I tried version 0.3 with OSX 10.1.5 and the Oxygen-keyboard. It worked immediately on connection. I liked the sounds, but experienced some problems with latency (quite audible). I guess that may have to do with the OSX-version or even the OSX-driver for the keyboard, more than the software. How does it perform with Jaguar??? Any latency left? Greetings Bjorn
