Paste key command switched - Version: 3.2, 10/17/2005 05:02AM PST

Just a heads up: as of version 3.2 the developer has chosen to utilized the standard keyboard command Cmd+V to invoke "View File" instead of the more usual "Paste." In order to paste text within the application you must choose the "Paste" menu item manually.
Otherwise this is a great app, providing a great service and doing exactly what it claims to do!

Any chance of PDB to RTF? - Version: 3.1, 8/29/2005 11:30PM PST

My main interest in Pordible is to bypass the WordSmith conduit by using BeamPRO to transfer specific files via Bluetooth. Unfortunately, the PDB files from WordSmith (it uses RTF for formatting) apparently won't convert (back to?) RTF with Pordible.
It appears the WordSmith conduit is troublesome for most MissingSync users (not me, though), so a product than can do this particular conversion might well received. After all, one can always avoid the conduit by backing up the PDA and then converting.

Retried the link

after a few days and I can now install it.
All I can say is this works perfectly. I have been converting Dr Who E-books from the BBC web site. This little program does it's job easily and without any fuss.
Definatly a great little app.

Does what it says; neatly. Thank-you PorDiBle! I don't know how else to create .pdb files, and this does it for free. It's also very lean, requiring very little RAM.
Don't forget: you have to drag your rtf document and drop it on the Pordible icon.
It says so right in the description of PorDiBle people; c'mon.
Admittedly, after it's done converting an .rtf document, the new .pdb version won't appear until you de-select the original .rtf document by clicking anywhere. This shouldn't take long for most folks to figure out, but it does seems a little weird, and maybe the Pordible folks should say so; but still overall, 5 stars.
Palm Reader Pro demo 2.4.2 reads all of these .pdb files smoothly for me. It does have a problem with certain fonts, so perhaps you should convert the rtf document to a more basic font before you convert it to .pdb.
David Pogue's OS X book (the big one for Jaguar) says that you should use the TextEdit, preference to (always?) save documents as rtf, and (maybe?) never as plain text (.txt) because it opens more powerful features in text edit and M$ Word reads them and can create them, simply by choosing 'save as rich text format'. I find this quite helpful. I barely use AppleWorks anymore, because it's Carbon not Cocoa, and none of the PeeCees I use have AppleWorks for Windows.
Apple's TextEdit is a splendid Cocoa (native OS X) application with total cross platform compatibility.
I'm having trouble with a new Sony Clie PEG-TJ25/U running Palm OS 5.2.1, MarkSpace's the MissingSync 3.0.9, Mac OS 10.2.8, and after about 10 hours of work, no sync-o', and no comprehendo, amigo.
Palm Sync executes and runs, but with no actual data transfer.
Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Great app, but...

Excellent app! One request I have is that it would allow you to simply keep the name of the current document by default without having to rename each document as it's converted.

I just tried the program and finally got it to work with drag and drop. It did not convert a text document made with textedit. But when I saved it as RTF, then it did. I thought it should work with a plain text document.
The next question is, can you make the created PDB file have the same name as the file that is converted.pdb? Why can't it come up with that as a default name?

I've been looking for HTML -> PDB converters, and everyone mentioned pordible. I wish it was still part of the distribution!

However, and this is a big one, the conversion from DOC (.pdb) back to text seems to have stopped working.
Is anyone having success with this?
Using Mac OS X 10.4.3 on PowerBook G4 (15" Aluminum)
Thank you.
