Product Description:

PorDiBle is an application to convert between text documents and Palm DOC files. Text files can be dropped onto PorDiBle and will be converted to a compressed .pdb file which can be read by any one of a myriad of Palm ebook readers, such as SmartDoc, TealDoc and iSilo. Conversely, dropping a DOC .pdb onto PorDiBle will convert back to a text file. PorDiBle can also convert HTML to DOC, albeit by stripping all tags in the process.

Note: PorDiBle is dependent on file suffixes to detect the file type; either .txt, .rtf, or .pdb. Make sure the files you are converting have the proper extension.

What's new in this version:

  • Now a Universal Binary
  • View file changed from 'apple-v' to 'shift-apple-v' (to avoid conflict with paste)
  • Converting from PDB -> TXT supported again (it was broken)
  • Creation Date & Modification Date are now set properly. Previously they weren't but the palm os would automagically fix them up UNLESS you copied them directly to an SD card (in which case they wouldn't be seen). Now they are properly set

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9
  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2
  • Mac OS X 10.1

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.1 or higher

PorDiBle ReviewNew Version Lost DOC to TEXT Conversion - Version: 3.2, 11/10/2005 02:32PM PST

Steve Davidson
I've been using PorDiBle for quite some time, and just tried this new version. It works as well as before (even better since you don't have to type the file name base/root into the dialog box anymore).

However, and this is a big one, the conversion from DOC (.pdb) back to text seems to have stopped working.

Is anyone having success with this?

Using Mac OS X 10.4.3 on PowerBook G4 (15" Aluminum)

Thank you.

PorDiBle Troubleshooting ReportPaste key command switched - Version: 3.2, 10/17/2005 05:02AM PST

Just a heads up: as of version 3.2 the developer has chosen to utilized the standard keyboard command Cmd+V to invoke "View File" instead of the more usual "Paste." In order to paste text within the application you must choose the "Paste" menu item manually.

Otherwise this is a great app, providing a great service and doing exactly what it claims to do!

PorDiBle CommentaryAny chance of PDB to RTF? - Version: 3.1, 8/29/2005 11:30PM PST

My main interest in Pordible is to bypass the WordSmith conduit by using BeamPRO to transfer specific files via Bluetooth. Unfortunately, the PDB files from WordSmith (it uses RTF for formatting) apparently won't convert (back to?) RTF with Pordible.

It appears the WordSmith conduit is troublesome for most MissingSync users (not me, though), so a product than can do this particular conversion might well received. After all, one can always avoid the conduit by backing up the PDA and then converting.
