What version number? - Version: 7.3.1, 9/22/2005 03:21PM PST

How come when you install this driver package and then check what the version of the driver is in Printer Setup it's reported as 2.3.2?? Whichever way you look at this, there's something wrong. Either the newer driver version is not getting installed properly (even though I have tried deleting all old stuff I can find), the driver is reporting an incorrect version number, or they have called the installer by a different version number than the version of the driver it installs. I can't say for certain which one is the answer, but my guess is that it's the third one. If this is the case, how do you know whether or not you need to update, or which version has been installed? Pathetic, but that doesn't surprise me where HP drivers for the Mac are concerned. Universally cr*p in my experience.
Oh, and even after running the installer the communication between the printer (a PSC950) and the Mac is totally unreliable. Switching the printer off and on again regularly seems to be the only way to get it to print, with the delay of a minute or more that this causes every time. Someone should start a class action against HP for providing such pathetic drivers and still continuing to sell their products for the Mac.

Tiger users here? - Version: 6.3.7, 4/29/2005 07:08AM PST

Has anyone found out if this driver supports Tiger?
However, all major bugs were not fixed:
- This version still doesn't support the fast user change (remember this was introduced with Panther!), once changing the user, the driver doesn't work any more
- The driver "forgets" it's preset: even though a specific user defined preset is preselected, it prints with default values. Only by re-selecting the already selected preset again, it uses these values
- The overall instability remains, and the only way to get it to print again is to either switch off and on again the printer, and in some cases, even a reboot is required.
Shame on HP, they should have taken the long development time to make the driver a true Tiger compatible and reliable driver! Very sad, sine the PSC hardwar is brillant.
