Product Description:

A new native Cocoa news reader for reading news on- and offline via NNTP. Halime is a subscription oriented newsreader which helps keep track off different subjects on the net with different, multiple subscriptions. It supports multiple news servers, binary extraction, makes extensive use of the Macintosh Aqua user interface, and a lot more. And above all, it is free! Please note: This is a technology preview missing a lot of features which will be implemented in the next few weeks.

What's new in this version:

  • Fixed the font settings bug in Preferences
  • Added "Set this font for all encodings" button in Preferences
  • Added support for a total of 83 encodings (US-ASCII through Windows, DOS, and Far East)
  • Added support for 83 encodings for SENDING postings - this feature may still be a little buggy, so please report any bugs directly to me
  • Added more support for Graphical Thread View (Try out the GTV Tool tips ;-)
  • Improved performance, especially when sorting by date and in some other areas
  • Added sorting/reordering through drag-and-drop of newsgroups in the drawer
  • Added some more nice small features
  • Added Toolbar to "Sent Postings" window
  • Added ROT13 "decoding"
  • Added "Hide/Show Tabview Tabs" (toolbar and Menu)
  • Added Graphical Thread View as Drawer (still very preliminary)
  • Added an option to automatically save subscriptions on close (Preferences setable)
  • Fixed lots of bugs
  • ATTENTION: The subscription file format changed. This *may* cause some problems, even though it should NOT, but if you happen to see a lot of crashes, try creating a new subscription.
  • NOTE: Halime leaks memory like nothing else for now, so please restart it every now and then

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

Halime CommentaryDevelopment stopped, Source available?!? - Version: 1.0rc2b, 11/26/2003 01:31PM PST

Zeitfraktur
I also experienced crashes from time to time when I was using Halime some time ago. I planned to give it another try about a week ago, but I was shocked to read that Imdat stopped development. On the other hand it was interesting to see that he made the source code available, so we are now free to work on it :)

If there anyone who took a look? A community?

I just implemented a "remember selected row after deleting postings" which I was always hoping for, so maybe others do similar things and probably also find causes for crashes?

Apart from that: Thanks Imdat for the nice program and all the best to you!

I've gone back to MT NewsWatcher X. It may be getting on for a year-old beta with an aging interface, but it hasn't crashed on me yet.

...after using for a couple of weeks; it's not nearly there. Still as crash-prone as ever. Very frustrating.
