Halime CommentaryDevelopment stopped, Source available?!? - Version: 1.0rc2b, 11/26/2003 01:31PM PST

Zeitfraktur
I also experienced crashes from time to time when I was using Halime some time ago. I planned to give it another try about a week ago, but I was shocked to read that Imdat stopped development. On the other hand it was interesting to see that he made the source code available, so we are now free to work on it :)

If there anyone who took a look? A community?

I just implemented a "remember selected row after deleting postings" which I was always hoping for, so maybe others do similar things and probably also find causes for crashes?

Apart from that: Thanks Imdat for the nice program and all the best to you!

I've gone back to MT NewsWatcher X. It may be getting on for a year-old beta with an aging interface, but it hasn't crashed on me yet.

...after using for a couple of weeks; it's not nearly there. Still as crash-prone as ever. Very frustrating.

I have used Halime on-and-off for over a year, but always found it somewhat crash-prone...so I would go back to MT Newswatcher. An autosave feature would be useful since it's still crashing and I'm losing Subscription information. In terms of interface it's one of the best out there (IMHO), I just wish it was a bit more stable.

Am I just dreaming that someday there may be a version of this program that doesn't crash when one tries to kill a message thread?!

Tim: Can you please do me some favors, as these bugs seem to be specific to your setting:

1. When you choose "hide tab titles", can you then resize the window and see if the scroll bar reappears?

2. "Split List and Content": Will be introduced as double-click on posting in the next release - there is no global setting for this; global settings are only in Preferences, all "View"-Menu settings are local to the current subscription; Each subscription has its own list an content view. The setting from "View"-Menu is stored from launch to launch

3. Window positions: This is actually an OS X feature and should work without my doing (except telling OS X to really remember the position). Can you send me your "Preferences"-file so I can see what the settings there are. The pref file is: "de.imdat.Halime.plist" in ~/Library/Preferences.

Also, it is easier to contact me directly using halime@imdat.de ;-)

Best
Imdat
BTW: The new Feedback system in VT s***s :-)

good'un usually on start-up - freezes for a while while apparently opening the subscription, then takes a while trying to download headers, then crashes. No way a release candidate, I don;t think.

previous releases. Everything opens, shuts and does it's thing faster than before by a marked amount. Seems more stable as well. The memory leak appears to have been fixed, though I do wonder why Halime loads parts of split files into memory as it downloads the chunks, before it combines them (instead of downloading the parts direct to disc, then joining them when all files are present), as this eats through memory fast. Thankfully most of the memory is released when the file is combined. Overall a big polish up for Imdat's kick-ass newsreader app. My only other wish would be that the kill filters and filtering would be more intuitive, since I still can't figure out how to use it correctly.

great start - nice interface - very easy to use. Problem is is crashes a lot! I crash at least once every time it starts up while grabbing the new info from the server. I have to re op it several times for a stable launch. It seems to have some issues in it's display of what was read and what is not... So for now until this matures I use "Pan" for X11 stable and easy to use but needs X11
