Xounds ReviewConstant Finder Crash - Version: 2.5b1, 4/19/2009 10:50AM PST

Downloaded the beta yesterday on my 24" iMac with 10.5.6. Nice to have back the audio feedback. Unfortunately I got tired of the finder crashes that increased in frequency. Turned Xounds off this morning. No more finder crashes.

Registered user of Xounds on my PPCs with Tiger so no funds were spent. Set up was a no brainer. My old prefs that appear to have been migrated over from my eMac with 10.4.11, were automatically used. Never had a problem with Xounds before, thus my rating deals with this version only.

This version needs a lot of improvement. Or someones helpful assistance. I still want to use Xounds. To each, his own. If I wanted a quiet Mac, I'd turn the volume down.

Andreas..
I yo-yo back and forth between Leopard and Tiger for certain reasons. In Leopard my Mac has felt dysfunctional for far too long. No longer. Hallelujah! Thanks, Unsanity, and don't listen to the voices of Unreason. ...and yes, a few $ is on its way.

Xounds ReviewGee Thanks! - Version: 2.5b1, 4/18/2009 07:46AM PST

Thanks Unsanity!

There's nothing I love more than when I can install a small little bell or whistle and it makes my entire system unstable. I live for the hours it takes to restore from a backup just to remove all traces of "haxie" junk from my system.

Just forget that my system had been rock solid for months before installing this.

Just forget that it's taken unsanity over a year to release a beta update to most of their packages.

I love Xounds with OS 10.5.6!!! Nowhere else can I be assured that a small 30 second install will result in repeated Finder crashes and system instability while at the same time littering my hard drive with files and not providing an uninstaller.

UNSANITY MAKES THE WORST ITEMS IF YOU CARE ABOTU SYSTEM STABILITY. AVOID ALL UNSANITY PRODUCTS.

Xounds ReviewHallelujah, my sounds are back! - Version: 2.5b1, 4/17/2009 11:01PM PST

It was a looooooooooong wait but it was worth it. I now have my sounds back on Leopard finally. I sure hope they don't take this long next time. So far it works on both my Mac Pro Intel with 10.5.6 and with my Mac Mini PowerPC with 10.5.6. I am very grateful for the update but I'm concerned that Unsanity may be on the verge of bankruptcy due to their lack of communication.

It works fine on my Intel MacBook as does Fruit Menu, WindowShade, and Shapeshifter. I've had no problems whatsoever.

Andreas..
"GroovyTuesday",
I am a medical practitioner in the UK, and my CV is viewable on several sites. I am also a Mac programmer of long standing and a "guru" on a few computing sites. My only connection with Unsanity (apart from in a professional capacity!) is as a user of their products. I have never called anyone by a "dirty name" nor, my dear fellow, have I been as rude as you. You are misdirecting your vehemence.

...but, "Seacæt", not many here are going to believe a word of what you wrote. What motivates you I know not, and neither can I guess the effect on your conscience.

Xounds ReviewPermanently damages system - Version: 2.4, 10/5/2006 02:08PM PST

Like many people, I would like more system sounds than Apple builds OS X with.

But I also want a stable operating system.

After troubleshooting with the experts at Apple, we determined that the system crashes I experienced, including the cessation of Apple system sounds, crashing of multiple programs, destruction of Display systems on my monitor, and more were most certainly the result of Xounds and Ape.

Apple specifically discourages the use of ALL such system-altering software.

Xounds is dangerous.

Before I called Apple, I contacted the developer. He, Andreas, gave me no help beyond telling me to "Restart!"

When I told him that did not work, he let me know I was stupid.

Are developers allowed to rate their own product here?

Xounds ReviewWhen someone is sure they are right... - Version: 2.4, 9/4/2006 04:34AM PST

(2 of 6 users found this comment useful)

Andreas..
Compare the number of downloads with the number of bad reports here and come to your own conclusion. I have been using Xounds from the start up until now (OS 10.4.7) with never a problem greater than a version having a harmless glitch - how do those so certain that Xounds or APE causes disasters explain that? I once needed advice from Unsanity and their response was immediate, helpful and courteous.

I note that whenever someone has 'cured' a problem by removing Xounds or APE they have always done other things at the same time - brilliant logic! But that's human nature - once someone becomes certain of their own rightness they remain... right, no matter what flies in the face of their 'certainty'. The bombast is usually a means of demonstrating their rightness - to themselves, not to me. Good, 'sound' (!!) logic gets through to me; illogical pontificating just bores me - and often hides a feeling of inferiority and an inability to use logical thought and processes. 'Sounding' right doesn't equate with being right.
