iTunes-LAME Encoder CommentaryBetter with tags, but slower - Version: 2.0.9.34, 1/31/2008 12:00AM PST

huzzam
I'm glad to see they've worked out the tagging issues. Now all the tags seem to make it to the encoded files, though some Unicode still gets mangled (accented Greek characters, so far, in my experience). Still, a definite improvement over 2.0.8, which just lost ~75% of tags!

I do notice, though, that this version runs at about 40% the speed of 2.0.8 on my Core 2 Duo 2gHz Macbook. I thought maybe I had a PowerPC version, but Activity Monitor shows it as Intel. I used to get around 12x encoding with "--preset standard", and now I'm at 4.5x. Any ideas?

iTunes-LAME Encoder CommentaryAlso tried Max and XLD-GUI - Version: 2.0.9.34, 12/26/2007 10:33AM PST

decadence
Max is okay but doesn't put the artist and title tags in the right place which means long hand clean up (iTunes does a much better job).

XLD-GUI freezes/locks the computer while being run and even after a force-quit. Toxic application.

iTunes-LAME Encoder ReviewDoes the job and does it well - Version: 2.0.9.34, 12/26/2007 10:30AM PST

decadence

You don't want to go to the dead version on the author's site. Alcor is doing something but whatever it is, it isn't Quicksilver and it isn't iTunes-Lame Encoder.

Latest version on Google code.

Lots of Intel and UTF fixes here.

Works a treat on quad intel (runs two concurrent encodings) after caching.

iTunes-LAME Encoder Reviewworks great - Version: 2.0.9.34, 12/21/2007 10:31AM PST

doesthatlooklikespittoyou
great program!

i do notice, however that my ibook G4 runs this program much faster than my roommate's intel imac (both running leopard). very strange. also, a tagging program is handy while using this, as i notice that this version removes the last character of every tag.

otherwise, this program rules; my mp3s sound amazing.

iTunes-LAME Encoder ReviewI can't believe it's updated - Version: 2.0.9.34, 11/4/2007 11:30PM PST

Jeff Cusick
I just downloaded and tried version 2.0.9-34 and it works GREAT. I'm running Leopard with the latest iTunes on an Intel iMac. No more missed text when importing into iTunes. It also includes LAME version 3.97 which is the latest stable version. I'm so happy someone took over improving this awesome software. You can't go wrong with using -V2 --vbr-new as the encoding option. Way better than using iTunes MP3 encoding.
