iTunes-LAME Encoder ReviewNice but a bit confusing to use - Version: 2.0.9.34, 1/4/2010 09:53PM PST

hkim
The interface is simple and nicely done. I find though that it is difficult to figure out how to encode a specific song. When I click the "import" button, the application then starts to process ALL songs in the iTunes folder! Drag-and-drop for one file would be an improvement and simpler to use.

iTunes-LAME Encoder CommentaryBetter with tags, but slower - Version: 2.0.9.34, 1/31/2008 12:00AM PST

huzzam
I'm glad to see they've worked out the tagging issues. Now all the tags seem to make it to the encoded files, though some Unicode still gets mangled (accented Greek characters, so far, in my experience). Still, a definite improvement over 2.0.8, which just lost ~75% of tags!

I do notice, though, that this version runs at about 40% the speed of 2.0.8 on my Core 2 Duo 2gHz Macbook. I thought maybe I had a PowerPC version, but Activity Monitor shows it as Intel. I used to get around 12x encoding with "--preset standard", and now I'm at 4.5x. Any ideas?

iTunes-LAME Encoder CommentaryAlso tried Max and XLD-GUI - Version: 2.0.9.34, 12/26/2007 10:33AM PST

decadence
Max is okay but doesn't put the artist and title tags in the right place which means long hand clean up (iTunes does a much better job).

XLD-GUI freezes/locks the computer while being run and even after a force-quit. Toxic application.
