Product Description:

Monolingual is a program for removing unnecessary language resources from Mac OS X, in order to reclaim several hundred megabytes of disk space.

I don't know about you, but I use my computer in only one (human) language -- English. And I'm willing to bet that you do too, albeit perhaps not English. So why do you have a bunch of localization files for the Mac OS X operating system filling up your hard drive? Enter Monolingual -- a handy utility for reclaiming your space for more useful things... like international mp3 files, email or whatever you like.

What's new in this version:

  • Added Spanish localization by Fran Ramírez.
  • Bugfix in the Italian localization.
  • Added JollysFastVNC to the blacklist.
  • Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

    • Mac OS X 10.5 Intel
    • Mac OS X 10.5 PPC

    Monolingual Reviewalways good - Version: 1.4.1, 2/4/2010 05:51AM PST

Even if I currently use several languages in my everyday work, removing such a huge amount of useless data is welcome, as it does not affect the current use with languages, mostof them without any localization at all. If a certain language is used, and you need it, simply do not remove it, it is as simple as that (I do not remove Romanian, Czech and Polish, as I sometimes need their localizations...).

True, I have NEVER attempted to remove system files, just the localization files. If you do that, perhaps you DO KNOW what you do, otherwise do not blame the author for your ignorance.
‘Think twice before you type’ should be translated by ‘think thrice before you click a button the function of which is unknown to you’

I would just recommend its author to specify if SL compliant, it seems to be though!

I've used Monolingual for ages and up until recently it has worked very well. However, with Snow Leopard it often hung and then crashed. I tried uninstalling all the non-Intel architectures on my Mac Pro using this and managed to cripple Snow Leopard, forcing a re-install.

Do not uninstall architectures with this utility as it does not work properly.

I got to the stage where I decided to simply get rid of Monolingual. Disk space is now so cheap that trying to slim your system is fraught with danger and for the most part, pointless.

THis program *censored*ed up the updating of Microsoft Office 2008 and I had to reinstall the program and all the updates over again. What a pain. Has this been sorted out in this version?
