Product Description:

efax is a small ANSI C/POSIX program that sends and receives faxes using any fax modem (internal or external). This Cocoa frontend, lets you send and receive faxes. To view faxes you can use any program that displays PDF files. Be sure to check my website for all the minor updates.

What's new in this version:

  • Completely changed the Fax Activity Record. Your old fax activity record file will still exist, but a new one (called FAD) will be created and used with the new GUI. The new GUI (activated by choosing Fax Activity Record from the window menu) will display all sent/received faxes. It also allows for searching based on status, date, file name, and phone number. Searching is case insensitive, and allows for partial word searches.
  • Incoming faxes are now PDF instead of TIFF
  • When "Never" is chosen in the preferences (for number of rings), the efax process wont be started, so the line wont be answered. This differs form its old function, and I think will be more to the liking of those wanted to disable receive completely. Also, the display will now read "Ready" instead of "Waiting for call".
  • Moved the receive speed setting to the advanced section of the modem preferences
  • Overhaul to the printing quality
  • Changed how custom covershseets work. Now you can select a PDF, RTF, or RTFD file. When selecting a RTF or RTFD file, you can use the special codes to translate out certain texts.
  • Changed some text in the preference window
  • Added searching of the fax activity record
  • Added option to the send sheet to place a fax on hold, instead of immediately trying to send. This could be useful to prepare multiple faxes, placing them all on hold, and then when ready start them all using the "Start Queue" button.
  • Added the ability to force a certain send speed (advanced section of the modem preferences). This is for those trying to send with ISDN modems, and Bluetooth modems
  • Added a contextual menu (control click) for the FaxStatus Window. You can now control-click on a fax listing, and change its status
  • Fixed receive stationID bug
  • Fixed landscape faxing. You can now send landscape faxes properly
  • Fixed watch folder
  • Fixed autoprint loop bug
  • Fixed autoprint to print all pages
  • Fixed autoprint quality
  • Fixed potential bug with Scan and Send
  • Other minor improvements I forgot to record

Sending white on black faxes makes a sender very unpopular with recipients. It took too long to update to fix this bug with 10.4, but I am glad to have it back. I had switched to the built-in OS X fax capability, but I like Fax Center better and will switch back to it now.
