Product Description:

FruitMenu is a haxie that gives you the ability to customize the Apple Menu and contextual menus. Using a visual editor you can edit the contents of the menus to suit your needs and taste. FruitMenu will also display the contents of the FruitMenu Items folder inside of your Library folder, launch applications and shell scripts from the Apple Menu and contextual menus, to allow easy file navigation and launching. To make the haxie completely flexible and customizable, you can assign hotkeys to particular Apple menu items.

What's new in this version:

  • This major upgrade is free to all registered users, as usual.
  • Application-specific settings: you now can define different configurations for Apple and Contextual menus for different applications.
  • Implemented "Click and Hold Mouse Button to Access Contextual Menu In Finder" option, so now you can simply click and wait if you have a one-button mouse in the Finder.
  • Added "Disable Animated Menu Fadeouts" option to speed up system response time.
  • New Advanced Settings section in the FruitMenu preference pane to tweak some less-common features of FruitMenu.
  • Gather Items In New Folder feature for contextual menus: will quickly move all selected files to a newly created folder.
  • Preview Image feature for the contextual menus to view the selected picture file preview directly in the Contextual menu.
  • Mounted Volumes feature for the Contextual Menu library - when you click on the Desktop in Finder, it will present a list of all mounted volumes.
  • Contextual menu plugins are now only loaded at first access to the contextual menu to speed up application launch time (can be overridden in the Advanced Settings).
  • Improved Exclude List so it works more reliably (for example, it can exclude Microsoft Office X applications now).
  • Ability to Show Hidden Files (available in the Advanced Settings).
  • Updated for Application Enhancer 1.2.1.
  • Changed the Demo model to 15 days trial with all features enabled, so you have a better opportunity to evaluate this excellent product.
  • Added an option for Advanced settings to disable FruitMenu contextual menu modifications if no selection context was passed in (can be helpful to stop FruitMenu polluting Safari/Chimera/OmniWeb popups).
  • Fixed a few bugs causing Mail.app contextual menus behave wrong or cause certain items to disappear.
  • Folders for which you don't have access to now show 'Insufficient Access Permissions' in the contents menu instead of 'Empty Folder'.
  • Mysterious disappearance of system-supplied Open With contextual menu fixed.
  • Incompatibility with some other contextual menu plugins (BigCat, FrontierCMPlugin) issue fixed.
  • Many other smaller bugfixes and optimizations.

FruitMenu ReviewUnsanity is a LOUSY company - Version: 3.7.3, 10/27/2009 11:24PM PST

I have tried (and tried and tried) to get information from the developer through their www.unsanity.com website. They do not and will not respond.

There is NO information posted about any of their products and compatibility with OSX v10.6 Snow Leopard. And no amount of email requests, support tickets, etc., have resulted in any response at all.

As much as I loved their products and have used them for years, the company has horrible customer service and the website is even worse.

Unlike some, I have found FruitMenu to be a reliable and helpful product. Consequently, for several years now, I have happily used it on three Macs with only minor compatibility problems (and gladly paid the appropriate shareware fees to Unsanity). It is a good product and the price is a bargain.

I purchased Snow Leopard the day it became available, but I haven't installed it on a single machine as of yet, because that would be irresponsible since I have many specialized software products that first need to be upgraded. Instead of moving too fast, I'm slowly going through my Apps and upgrading each for SL compatibility while making a list of those updates that aren't yet available.

FruitMenu will be ready when it's ready. Hopefully, so will I. Be patient.

FruitMenu CommentaryUnsanity updates for Snow Leopard are supposed to be in work - Version: 3.7.3, 10/8/2009 08:12PM PST

The Unsanity Blog entry for Oct 6, 2009, says they are developing updates for FruitMenu and their other haxies. I hope they come out a little faster than the updates for Leopard did. I never found an alternative to Fruit Menu that I liked better in the year between Apple's OS X 10.5 release in 2007 and Unsanity's release of Fruit Menu 3.7.1 in August 2008. At least my old iMac G5 is unaffected!
