Palm Desktop Troubleshooting ReportWill it work with Leopard? - Version: 4.2.1revD, 1/16/2008 12:00AM PST

I am thinking about updating to Leopard and wonder if Palm Desktop works?

If not, can anyone offer a good substitute contact manager?

Palm Desktop Reviewdesktop problems - Version: 4.2.1revD, 2/5/2007 06:55PM PST

I have been using a palm with the desktop software for the mac since the beginning. I have had well over a dozen palm handhelds/ some with phones over the years and have used them with well over 25 different computers. I am not going to say I never had a problem but VERY few and far between. A far superior product to the separates of ical and address book. I am sad to see the palm support go. I hope Apple manages to better integrate the ical, address book and memos (maybe the leopard mail will accomplish this) As of right now, I am sticking with the palm desktop over the apple separates. I have no problem with eiother cradle or bluetooth syncing on any of my macs (some on 9.2.2, some on 10.4.8) and the same palm has no problem going back and forth between the two - DAILY!!!!!!!

Palm Desktop ReviewIt's hard to find words... - Version: 4.2.1revD, 1/5/2007 11:32AM PST

Few apps drive me to want to commit pure vitriol to a review. Palm Desktop for Mac is one of the few.

One only has to suffer utter and complete data loss ONCE to be inspired to do a drive-by on Palm's Sunnvale headquarters. But in case once isn't enough, ongoing use of Palm on the Mac platform should be reserved only for those who have a masochistic fetish.

This software is so riddled with bugs, non-working features, poor implementation and phenomenally unreliable sync'ing issues, that it's a wonder no one has come along and put them out of our misery.

Short version: Picture a giant statue of a hand in front of Palm headquarters. Fingers in the air, back of the hand facing us. Lower all fingers but the middle one. Spray paint "For Mac Users" on the back of the giant hand.

Palm Desktop CommentaryAfter seven Palms - *F**K Palm! - Version: 4.2.1revD, 7/21/2006 01:20PM PST

I'm fed up with this utter disregard for the very users who *made* Palm a contender in the PDA industry. I've gone through about seven Palms, currently with the Tungsten C. I had been considering buying a Tungsten T|X or a Treo Palm/phone... but after seeing how absolutely horribly they're treating Mac users, I've had enough of Palm. I believe there are PDAs that will run Linux. Sounds promising. At this point: anything that's NOT Micro$**t, and NOT Palm will get my money.

IMHO, Palm is run by monkeys whose brains are frozen and half eaten. Idiots!

FYI, it *is possible* to get the palm software running under Tiger, but it requires using the Terminal (unix CLI shell prompt) and knowing how to 'chmod', 'chown', and 'chgrp', not to mention knowing *what* to chmod! AAARGH!!! Their FixPermissions script is useless (at least it was for me). Written by brainless monkeys, no doubt. :-P

Palm Desktop CommentaryPowerPC and Intel Core Duo - Version: 4.2.1revD, 7/1/2006 11:44AM PST

Their website says:

PowerPC and Intel Core Duo
Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager software works with both of these processors. We have found no significant new issues using our software with the Intel Core Duo processors found in recent Macs such as the MacBook Pro.

Palm Desktop CommentaryUniversal version? Treo 700p support? - Version: 4.2.1revD, 5/17/2006 02:37PM PST

libertyforall1776
When will there be a Universal version, and when will Mac users get new features? This hasn't been significantly updated since 2004. Also, what about Treo 700p support? Their website says nothing...

After messing around with Missing Sync and having several problems, I'm back to Palm and Palm Desktop. Installed without a hitch. Runs well. For its ability to sync categories across the board and it's reliability - Palm's the go. Might pay to repair permissions after installing (I do it with all software installations).

Palm Desktop CommentaryWorks for me - Version: 4.2.1revD, 11/2/2005 08:04PM PST

I didn't have any trouble installing Palm Desktop nor did it create permissions problems. I agree that all of the components are dated. I have long since moved on from the palm components and I keep this around only for the iSync component.

Apple's iCal and Address Book pretty much take care of everything else. I do miss the nice skins that Claris' (and by inheritance - Palm Desktop's) old calendar had, the ability to put contacts in more than one category, and the ability to sort and filter contacts by different criteria. The Claris address book could even launch Applescripts. Why hasn't Apple brought that back?
