Product Description:

Zingg! is a Contextual Menu that lists all applications that claim to open a given file. You can also configure Zingg! to always include or exclude certain applications. Classic applications can receive special handling. Zingg! offers much more functionality than the Finder's "Open With" menu, allowing you to open more than one item or folders, and to restrict which applications appear in the menu.

What's new in this version:

  • Several new configuration options have been added, including the ability to restrict the list to applications in standard folders, include running applications, and restrict the list to applications marked as "Always" or "Override".
  • Setting up the application list is now much faster.
  • The application list can now be sorted by any column in either ascending or descending order. The sort criteria, and the column width, are now remembered from one run to the next.
  • Applications contained within other application packages or bundles now are excluded from the list.
  • Changing settings can now be done with a contextual menu, and you can ask to show any application in the Finder.
  • Selected application paths can now be copied to the clipboard, and are also available to system services such as XRay.
  • The cursor now changes to a hand when you are over a link in the "About" or "Update" windows, and the tooltip for the link shows the actual URL.
  • Testing if the Classic environment was running was broken in 1.2 under some system versions, it works again now.
  • The "About" window now has a "Go to topic" popup.
  • Previously, Zingg! would save any changes without confirmation when quitting by the "Quit" menu item. It now asks for confirmation in the standard manner.
  • Checking for updates now sends your Mac OS X version to my server, for strictly statistical purposes. During installation, or when you update to a new Mac OS X version, the "Check for Updates" window now opens automatically.
  • In the contextual menu, if the default application was also marked "Always" it's now commented with "(always & default)" instead of "(always) (default)".
  • A clock cursor is now shown during longer operations.
  • For fast turnaround, post suggestions and bug reports to the online support forum.

Zingg! CommentaryNo go for Intel - Version: 1.4.1, 7/19/2007 09:03AM PST

Too bad

Q: Why doesn't it work with my Intel Mac?
A: I apologize, for various reasons I'll be unable to make a Universal version of Zingg! in the near future.

Zingg! CommentaryNice Job! - Version: 1.3, 12/31/2003 01:52PM PST

This utility still works wonderfully, is far more useful than Apple's own attempt, and it keeps getting better!

It works great on my 10.2.8 machine with a separate partition for OS 9. On my 10.3.2 machine (all on one partition), every classic application shows up twice in the list with identical paths. Apart from this weirdness in the configuration view, it still works perfectly from the Finder's contextual menu.

Thanks Ray!

Zingg! ReviewWelcome Back! - Version: 1.3, 12/31/2003 12:54PM PST

Mr Tea

Nice to see a new version. This is definitely the simplest way to open a script application for editing.
