Product Description:

Captain FTP is inspired by Apple's philosophy of making innovative products with ease of use a fundamental design principle. Being innovative isn’t just
copying the brilliance of OS X but developing new solutions that enhance it. Captain FTP has many unique innovative features such as Virtual folders, Hot
folders for automatic uploads, File Sharing between Captain FTP users, Sync Browsing, Segmented file transfer to accelerate large file transfers and the
aesthetically pleasing Scheduling clock.

Captain FTP supports FTP/SSL-FTP/SFTP with a flexible tabbed interface complimenting file-sharing for authorized users, in an attractive metal interface.
Captain FTP is also incredibly powerful, fast, secure, and user-friendly, as demonstrated by the wealth of functionality available for all users from novices to
expert users:

Simple navigation with Quick Connect, drag&drop, Virtual folders, WebDav,
Growl, File Archiving, Finder Sidebar, Aliases, and built-in internal viewers for movie,
picture, sound and PDF.
Comprehensive functionality with Transfer Manager, scheduled transfers, accelerated transfers, resuming, auto-reconnect, synchronization, Applescripts, file
privileges, large file support (2GB) and remote file editing. Localized versions available in English, German, French, Japanese, and Chinese.

What's new in this version:

With Captain FTP 5.0 we have tried to focus on requests made by our users and have added our own little bits of magic.
Many users asked for WebDAV and we have implemented it in version 5 so users can access and transfer file to/from http servers.
Users may now also compress files and folders before uploading or sharing them, to shorten transfer times.
For a better user experience Captain 5.0 now includes Growl Notification support, this provides users with desktop or audible notifications when particular tasks have been completed.

We have also taken the oppurtunity to give Captain FTP a fresh lick of paint in the form of new icon sets and brand new interface options.
The Preview drawer displays information about media files both locally and remotely, even allowing users to play movies and audio files from remote servers.
For increased functionality we have added a drawer to display background transfers. Users may run transfers/tasks in the background simply using the 'ALT' key. This keeps the browser window free for other transfers.

Futher Enhancements for 5.0:
- WebDav
- zip, tar, tgz, tbz archive support
  - zip, tar - all actions
  - tar.gz, tgz, tar.bz, tbz - all but delete and add to archive
  - zip decryption (by asking user for password)
- private keys in SFTP /passphrase/
- file id in Get Info
- duplicate file/folder
- preview drawer which displays (for local and remote files):
  - images
  - movies
  - pdf documents
  - music
  - local folder size
  - general info for any other kind of file
  - general info for volumes
- Growl support

Bug fixes:
- Transfer via Transfer Manager had set the permissions only for the first transferred file. Fixed now
- Closing Get Info dialog sometimes had caused crash. Fixed now.
- Disconnection during SSL/FTP connections had caused 1 minute hang. Now disconnects immediatelly
- Occasionally crash during startup has been fixed.
- Occasionally crash during 'Calculate remote folder size' in Get Info dialog is fixed.
- in SFTP dragging a file over a folder was causing a folder changing error.

Cosmetic Changes:
- files transferred via TM don't force refreshing so often.
- pasting a file into the same folder it exists in duplicates it.

Captain FTP Reviewmy choice for photo uploads to media and more... - Version: 6.0031, 3/16/2009 05:45AM PST

really good and ease to use application from xdsnet - they have done quite well job! so much FTP apps out there - and only some like captainFTP are compatible to different servers and protocols.

i am using captain FTP also with crowznest as FTP forward to send multiple pictures to several media clients when out of office (and meanwhile also when i am in office!)

i just have to upload my pictures over mobile connection once, then put them in some hot folder - and the files run over broadband simultaneous to all defined client FTP servers.
(email is no alternative because not running directly into archive)

and if problems occur - i really get feedback and solutions back! so i can just recommend their software.

also use isoftphone from xdsnet for VOIP

Use Captain for years now but version 6.0020 is very buggy and constantly crashes especially if you use sftp.

hope it will be fixed soon as at the current stage it's not usable for me.
