Product Description:

iBeatTime is a clock that uses Swatch Beats. This way of representing time eliminates the use of timezones making it the same all over the world. In other words, all countries of the world will have the same beats. In addition, iBeatTime features a list you can use to add your favorite places and see what time it is over there, it also has a converter which can convert any local time to beats or vice versa, and you can add see information like the abbreviated name of the timezone you're currently in, the GMT offset, local time and UTC time. You can also add iBeatTime to your login items and you can use AppleScript to create scripts.

What's new in this version:

  • Built as a universal binary.
  • Bug fix when converting beats to time.

I can’t comment on the program as I have not tried it. I did use the swatch time utilities when they first started it but I found little reason to keep using them.

There is already a time base the does not use zones and is very widely used. It is called UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). This uses the time at the Greenwich, England as the standard. Most shortwave radio stations use this to schedule their shows for listeners all over the globe.

There are UTC menu clocks as well.

Swatch watches were cool until people figured out they were paying 30 bucks for a 2 dollar watch. Beat time is the same thing, but less useful.

I like it, but I can't move it in the menubar. I've got a bunch of little menubar extras up there, and iBT just plops itself on the left side between NetMonitor and Synergy. It'd be nice to be able to command-drag it to a new location.
