the calculator takes in commands the way I feel most comfortable writing. Also, I love the history display right above the input area. It makes me feel like I'm using my trusy TI-82 again.

For parents who are helping their kids with math - especially at the middle school level where step-by-step proofs are required, Calc Thingy is the ONLY calc app out there (that I know of) that will display step by step proofs. Add to it a true algebraic input and this app is outstanding!

that your computer begin a Java VM, so first launch, especially on a machine starved for RAM, may take a couple extra bounces. Repeated launches on my 450MHz G4 take 2 or 3 bounces. I consider this acceptable.

Button window gives conventional computer calculator look, but as author notes, the normal, string (ie, you type the stuff) window is the fastest and most convenient. Merci. I can stop looking for an OS X calculator
