Nikon Scan ReviewNot for Rosetta emulation (batch scan mode) - Version: 4.0.2, 11/4/2008 10:58AM PST

I had to go back to an older Mac to scan my slides. This workes flowless. However, the userinterface is not very intuitive. Nikon should have a look on people working with there Nikon Scan software.
The scanner itself is well built and does an excellent job. What a pitty, that the software lacks behind it.
Payed a lot and there is not upgrade to Intel macs

Nikon Scan Troubleshooting ReportWhile in Leopard Limbo-Dig use a Classic Mac - Version: 4.0.2, 5/31/2008 10:01AM PST

Same crashing here with 10.5.3 on a MacPro. Fortunately, I keep my Blue & White G3 next to the MacPro. I share monitor and keyboard with a switch. So I was able to install Nikon Scan 4 onto the G3 from the CD I got with my Nikon Scanner (Coolscan V). OS 9 seemed to read the CD fine and even updated Nikon Scan. I also have an old Photoshop 7 on that computer. Sure it's a little slow, but it runs and I can copy the files over to the MacPro. I hope this helps.

Nikon Scan ReviewAwful - Version: 4.0.2, 3/24/2008 07:04AM PST

great scanner shame about the neglected support for the software. Since upgrading to Intel Mac this piece of software is of no use. Crashes in CS 2 and crashes as stand alone. I sit here with two options for out with a lot of cash for a 3rd party ! or buy a new scanner (I have a LS8000ED and my next will NOT be Nikon) arghhhh. I remember having to wait a lonnnnnggg time for Nikon to make a OSX compatible version and now...they can not follow. Also their Amiga look Nikon View is laughable.

Nikon Scan CommentaryIntel Version? - Version: 4.0.2, 3/16/2008 12:54PM PST

This program has always been slow so I've generally used Vuescan instead. I just got an iMac 2.4 gHz and hoped Nikon scan would be useful, because in principal, better scans can be made with the latter as compared to VueScan.

No dice, it's so slow I've forgotten what I've done by the time it finally refreshes/updates/redisplays/etc whatever the latest changes were. Too bad, it appears Nikon is more interested in digital cameras than keeping equipment they sell compatible with today's computers.

Nikon Scan ReviewNikon Scan / It works, but not more... - Version: 4.0.2, 1/25/2008 12:00AM PST

I can't believe that Nikon does'nt care more about their Macintosh customers. They got great hardware, but their software sucks. Correction; their software is OK but they don't keep it up to date. I'm actually surprised that Nikon Scan 4.0.2 worked on my MacBook Pro 17" (C2D) 10.5. I've tested to scan and I can tell it is not Intel optimized. It's VERY SLOW!

Nikon Scan Usage Tipworks (sort of) with Imac intel core duo - Version: 4.0.2, 10/7/2007 05:13AM PST

As a scanning tool the software is great, good scans and easy to use. However, input and ejecting of films is not working properly with my coolscan 4000. So I use VueScan to insert the film, then force quit Vuescan, startup Nikon scan and scan my negatives. Next I quit Nikon scan again and eject the film with Vuescan. Adds a few seconds to my scanning time, but overall the scans are great!

Nikon Scan Troubleshooting ReportPartial with CS2, not compatible with CS3 - Version: 4.0.2, 4/26/2007 04:00PM PST

Back in November I wrote that Nikon Scan 4.0.2 did not work with intel macs. A small correction there: it absolutely does not work (crashes immediately) when launched as a standalone app. However, if you launch it from Adobe Photoshop CS2 as a plug-in, it does run in an Intel mac. Unfortunately I have now upgraded to Photoshop CS3 and it will not load Nikon Scan 4.0.2 as a plug-in. So now it just doesn't work, at all, period.

Nikon Scan CommentaryPowerful but unstable. Shame to Nikon. - Version: 4.0.2, 11/16/2006 05:33AM PST

This is a powerful and efficient software to drive my Coolscan 5000. Unfortunately, it is very unstable. I almost never managed to batch scan a full tray of 50 slides without crashes or freezing. Sometimes, the problem is solved by just restarting the app, bit most of the time one needs to delete the preferences or even to fully unisntall and reinstall Nikon Scan. There is no clear pattern and it perisisted on my dual processor PowerPC will all versions of MacOS X (2, 3 and 4). The interface also is buggy (buttons and sliders). Nikon is very slow to correct problems and support is almost noon-existent. Finally, one may wonder when an upgrade for Intel macs will be finally available.
Altogether, it is a shame thay Nikon devotes so little effort to improving and maintaining the software for its amazingly good scanners.

Nikon Scan ReviewAbsolutely doesn't work on intel macs - Version: 4.0.2, 9/3/2006 10:44AM PST

Nikon Scan 4.0.2 crashes instantly when I try to run it on my Macpro.

Fortunately, there is Vuescan (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/7610) which operates the LS-4000 just fine. The Vuescan interface is more techy and takes some study to master but it can control all the features of the Nikon scanners just as well & in some cases better than Nikon's software. And it WORKS JUST FINE on the Macpro - congrats to Hamrick and a big "boo, hiss" to Nikon.
