Product Description:

DropCompress is a very simple app that gives you the functionality of DropTar, but without the price tag. Drag files and folders that you want to be compressed to the icon in your dock or applications folder and watch them quickly be compressed for transfering over the internet or for backing up important information.

Two compression formats are currently supported: tar-gzip and zip. Switch between your prefered format via the Preference menu item under the DropCompress menu. Drag as many files or folders that you need compressed at one time and watch them shrink serially.

What's new in this version:

Fixed bug where launching DropCompress by dragging files onto it would cause it to hang after successfully compressing the files
Added Option-drag support: all files drag and dropped onto DropCompress while holding down the option key (files can be dragged individually while continuing to hold the option key) will be compressed in one Archive instead of multiple archives.

use it to archive OS9 applications, it'll destroy them. That's basically it, since almost no file formats still use the resource fork. If in doubt, test before you delete your originals.
