Product Description:

Supercal is an application that can accurately correct monitor response curves using only visual tests. Unlike most calibration applications, no assumptions are made about the display's response curves, so it can make highly accurate and detailed corrections for any display technology (CRT, LCD, DLP, Plasma, etc.) used in desktop, wall mount, and projection systems. Using only your eye as the measuring device, this program is capable of producing a very neutral gray ramp. In addition, profiles with different target gamma and white balance settings can be created without repeating the entire calibration process.

What's new in this version:

  • Added ability to change the image in the white balance step and a persistent preference to save the setting
  • Fixed bug where tone reproduction curve for "perceptual" target response setting was being set in the profile to the last gamma slider value rather than a proper table of values
  • Added preference to save the tone reproduction curve for perceptual response as a table or as a single gamma value approximation
  • Canceling from white balance adjustment now properly restores previous gamma table
  • Added chromaticity values for:
    • Samsung SyncMaster 700NF
    • Sony GDM-FW900
    • Princeton EO90
  • Added preference to save an "I have paid" reminder
  • Fixed resource setting that caused long-standing activate/deactivate issue with gamma target slider setting
  • Updated many resource settings to insure proper font is displayed in window items under 10.3 (pre-release versions of Panther revealed a number of previously unspecified resource settings. Some issues still remain with item background colors inside of group boxes under the latest pre-release version of Panther. We'll have to wait and see if they're fixed in the final release)
  • Changed text and button wording in some alert dialog boxes to improve readability
  • Eliminated frames in help pages due to issues with Apple Help Viewer
  • Fixed bad line ending characters in ReadMe file that were visible under Mac OS 9
  • Added index file to the help folder to aid searching in Apple Help Viewer

What an excellent piece of calibration software. What a shame the developer hasn't updated it for Leopard. I wonder if he/shi is still around and could be persuaded to update thei EXCELLENT application?

SuperCal ReviewWow! Tame those Pantone colors... - Version: 1.1.4, 10/17/2004 09:38AM PST

...and your color proofing problems with this great little app. I'm in the graphics/ printing business and had tried off and on for the last 10 years via ColorSync, Adobe Gamma, Apple's built-in monitor calibrators, ICC profiles, trying different printers and papers (etc., etc.) to get good correspondence between the color I was seeing on my monitor compared to the resulting inkjet proofs printed out for clients. I could never come nearly as close as I needed or wanted. In some cases (burgundys and most purples, with my latest setup), I could not even get in the ballpark, and always ended up throwing in the towel and just "making do."

This is the first thing that has ever done the job for me. Of course, nothing is ever perfect where color-matching between different color spaces (RGB vs. CMYK) is concerned, but at least now I am real close on most colors/hues. Subject to the expected differences between RGB colors on a monitor that have no equivalent CMYK color on an inkjet printer, the colors are darn close indeed.

It is like I have finally achieved nirvana or the holy grail of color management. I almost never thought it would happen. Hallelujah, and thank you, thank you, Berg Design for this app. At $19 it is a steal if color management is part of your business.
