Trash X is a fully functional trashcan for Mac OS X. Extremely simple to use, it functions just like the classic Mac OS Trashcan - files and folders dropped on it are moved to the trash, and disks droppped on it are ejected. In addition, it also features numerous functions for the power user:
  • Instantly delete files and folders without sending them to the trash
  • Empty trash only on selected disks
  • Securely Delete (Shred) files and folders
  • Securely Delete (Shred) trash only on selected disks
  • Securely Overwrite (Shred) available free space on disks
  • Empty Classic Mac OS Trashes
  • Empty Trashes as root
  • Execute OS X system maintenance scripts

And of course, you can use it just like the trashcan you've always had on your desktop. Trash X is completely safe and it requires no system hacks or Terminal command line voodoo. Place an alias or copy of it on your desktop, in your documents folder, or anywhere else you wish. COOL TIP: Put Trash X in your Finder windows toolbar to have easy access to it in any folder.

Trash X Troubleshooting Reportv1.8 Buggy - Version: 1.8, 10/31/2006 09:06AM PST

On Mac OS X 10.2.8, where I happen to be working at the moment, version 1.8 of Trash X is buggy. Whenever it quits the system throws up the box: "The application Trash X has unexpectedly quit." It gets real annoying after awhile. It is also difficult to get to the Extras window. Try emptying your trash first before you use the keystoke. Also, the size of the application has bloated from 1.6MB to 11.8MB. Is this to accommodate universal binary code?

I am passing on this version and sticking with v1.7.8, which has been reliable.

As usual, this application is slowwwwwwwwwwwww. The effectiveness of its 'secure delete' feature remains unclear.

Trash X ReviewA useful utility - Version: 1.7.7, 9/28/2005 08:57PM PST

I am surprised this does get a higher rating. I find it useful to be able to delete the trash on my USB drive without also emptying the trash on my hard drive. It is also useful to be be able to immediately delete some files again without emptying the full trash. Emptying trash can be dangerous and I like the extra control and flexibility Trsh X gives.
