Product Description:

Like most operating systems, MacOS X doesn't come out of the box to take full advantage of a high-speed, broadband internet connection. Luckily, because of its Unix base, there's an easy fix for that. By making certain tweaks to your network settings, you may be able to almost double your download speeds.

What's new in this version:

Added Installer package. Fixed Panther system log error on startup.

BroadbandOptimizer Usage TipExcellent for LAN connections - Version: 1.5, 9/1/2006 08:13PM PST

Broadband Optimizer is not so much for increasing speed on internet connections -- frankly, internet connections are, by nature, much slower than local area networks (LANs). Broadband Optimizer helps IMMENSELY with LAN connections such as copying large files across your own internal network between two computers. Transfer speeds between my PC and Mac increased from about 2MB/s to over 9MB/s with this tool installed (I only have a 100Mbps network, not gigabit). NOTE: On a larger network, this can cause problems by increasing communications between PCs even when they're not doing much, so I recommend using it only on small LANs (5 or fewer computers).

Went from 4Mbps to 300kbps on Adelphia cable after installing this. Not good at all. Tried uninstalling, but evidently there is something left behind, as I now only get 2Mbps

Absolutely no difference in download time. Not even 1 second faster. We're on cable modem here (comcast). We tested the download speeds of several large files here at VersionTracker, recorded their times (down to the exact second). We then installed BroadbandOptimizer, rebuilding permissions, restarting, and verifying its correct installment via the Terminal (all steps outlined in the short but clear manual). We then downloaded each of these 4 large files again, and there wasn't any difference in speed.

We removed this product and that's the end of the story.
