Xsee ReviewAlpha Build Quality and Features - Version: 2.1.6, 9/19/2004 01:25AM PST

I fired Xsee up and immediately noticed two "help" menus, not a good sign for sensible GUI design. Further usage confirmed my suspicions, this app is very clunky to use and lacks key controls. For example, it's helpful to have a command to "zoom to fit," either a window or the full screen in slide show mode--if such a command exists, I couldn't find it. Xsee crashed a few times in the hour or so that I used it. The file browser was nice, but again the interface was clunky; I tried dropping several folders filled with jpegs on Xsee, and it opened them all in the same window, with their contents listed out sequentially. It would be better to open separate browsing/viewing windows for each folder, IMO, or at least give the option to do so.

Overall, Xsee has good potential but it feels like an alpha build, with missing features and poor stability. There are better alternatives both free and shareware: ToyViewer is my favorite free image viewer, it opens folders in their own panels for feature-rich slideshows and does light editing. Imageviewer costs a few bucks but it's a nice browser/viewer, and it's slide show has more special effects than Toyviewer. Finally there's the more expensive GraphicConverter, which I think is well worth the money for a Photoshop light. Considering the competition, it's a bit ridiculous to pay for substandard fare like Xsee.

Xsee Troubleshooting Reportstartup problems - Version: 2.1.1, 9/30/2003 03:48PM PST

It's actually stuffit 8 causing the problems. The new stuffit destroys alot of programs when unstuffing, it happened to me with mlmac, xsee, and limewire. I deleted stuffit 8 and downloaded 7 and no more problems.

Xsee ReviewWIll not run on a Dual G5 - Version: 2.1.0, 9/28/2003 07:33PM PST

MacHead
This app simply refuses to run on my new G5 Dual. It attempts to start up and then immediately quits. It is the only app I have tried that refuses to run.
