JES Deinterlacer ReviewTotally LOVE this app - Version: 3.5.2, 8/18/2009 09:01AM PST

I use this to put old VHS videos to DVD that are pretty much unavailable any other way than by old tapes. Tried the tools available in FinalCut to clean up and de-interlace, and was very dissatisfied with the results and time they took to achieve. Enter JES Deinterlacer: it is truly amazing! Speedily creates superior progressive output to FC's Compressor, and coupled with JES Video Cleaner, the results are literally astounding. Factor in the cost of these apps, and I can't say enough good about them.

Other than having to trash the prefs files more than occasionally, the only real drawback to using this software successfully is that you must first READ through the included help files, and then be willing to EXPERIMENT to get the results you want. If you're unwilling, or unable to grasp these concepts, consider that you should probably be doing something else instead, and not messing with anything like Final Cut Studio (or any other serious video apps) to begin with.

JES Deinterlacer ReviewThe Best PAL-NTSC Conversion software - Version: 3.3.2, 9/19/2008 05:30AM PST

I happened to google this software when I was editing TV commercial for Nigeria based on NTSC original footage.

For the past 5 years, I was looking for the right conversion software. I tried so many softwares.

JES Deinterlacer was the best NTSC-PAL conversion software I ever used.

So far, I've only tried NTSC to PAL conversion based on NTSC DV QuickTime movie file. But I'm very happy with the result.

Only thing that I had to change was to change "Block match threshold" to 400, and check "Remove jaggies" and then I left everything else as default.

And I got amazing result from it.

I recommend this software 100% for NTSC-PAL conversion.

I've experimented de-interlacing various QT movies using this program. I've found that JES-D does a great job doing this, as long as you go from an interlaced QT.mov to a de-interlaced QT.mov.

In head to head trials, with all settings equal, if you want to go from an interlaced QT movie to a de-interlaced AVI, I've found MPEG Streamclip to do a better job, exporting without any noticeable decrease in picture resolution.

JES Deinterlacer ReviewGreat!! - Version: 3.1.7, 2/26/2007 06:53AM PST

In a pinch I tried JES-D for converting PAL footage to NTSC. Now it's my main program for conversions in more. Only downside, I kept crashing the app when trying to batch multiple jobs on a MacIntel.

JES Deinterlacer ReviewThanks for a great program - Version: 3.1.4, 12/9/2006 02:41PM PST

This really is a great program. It is very simple to create home movies and dvd's in pal or ntsc and convert them to the other to share with people in other regions. Jan is also great about responding to e-mails and helping people use the program correctly and to its full capabilities. Thanks for a great program, Jan.

JES Deinterlacer ReviewIt just works! - Version: 3.1, 10/18/2006 12:12PM PST

I discovered this about a year ago when searching for something to convert between PAL and NTSC video, and this totally saved me. There are other methods, but they're WAY too cumbersome (check out Apple's directions for using iMovie to do it). This is great. You just select "Standards conversion" and it chugs away, producing a perfect conversion on the other end. If you create chapters in iMovie, it even preserves those in the new conversion. Drop it into iDVD, and you can now burn DVDs in both standards.

AND... it's FREE!!!

JES Deinterlacer ReviewExcellent Work - Version: 3.0, 7/26/2006 02:02PM PST

Except for having to re-set the output file and no drag and drop support, this is a great utility. I was able to create quasi 720p video from my 1080i footage after a number of experiments. A really nice piece of work.

JES Deinterlacer ReviewInverse Telecine doesn't work - Version: 2.7.3, 11/15/2005 02:07PM PST

I always get the same errors when trying to use inverse telecine to recreate 24fps film rate from 30fps captures. It will say that the "top field first" option is wrong and I should try the opposite setting. Except the opposite setting results in the same message! There are only two settings, after all. On the extremely rare occasion I don't get that message, JES quits soon after and doesn't produce any usable files. Maybe this works fine for simple deinterlacing, but I just can't recommend it for inverse telecine. However, if I only needed simple deinterlacing, I would use something like ffmpegX. That has a deinterlace option and would let me encode to Xvid or h.264 in the same pass, so there's no additional loss from later re-encoding. As of right now, I have to sadly say that there's still no inverse telecine solution for the Mac, which is a damn shame for a platform that's supposed to be so video-friendly.
