Apple AirPort Utility ReviewSo far so good - Version: 5.4.2, 6/4/2009 06:04AM PST

Moonwatcher
Installed on Mac Pro running 10.4.11 and Mac Book Pro running 10.5.7.
No problems so far, even without rebooting. Repaired permissions on both right after the update.

Apple AirPort Utility ReviewNo Problems Here - Version: 5.4.2, 6/3/2009 08:24PM PST

No problems with update here. G4 Digital Audio tower with Sonnet Aria Extreme 802.11g card and Airport Express (802.11g). Also ran this update on three 24" imacs at work and had no problems, although I didn't connect wirelessly on any of them. The update ran fine however. Application seems to work properly.

Apple AirPort Utility Troubleshooting ReportVery Unstable Update - Version: 5.4.2, 6/3/2009 06:07PM PST

I ran this update on two different computers, a dual 2.0 G5 and a MacBook Pro.

On the G5, the auto update feature of the Airport Utility wanted to launch Classic. Tried this multiple times with the same result. Downloading and running the updater manually worked fine.

The problems were on the MacBook Pro. I used Software Update, and also updated QuickTime & iTunes at the same time. Ran the updates, then rebooted.

After reboot, EVERYTHING crashed (Airport Utility, Safari, Firefox, Disk Utility, Crash Reporter, etc) - all of them crashed.

Finally shut down the computer and re-booted with verbose logging (command-V) at startup. Then things seem to work (at least for now).

Did someone test this thing before it was released????

After installing, I ran disk utility repair permissions. There were several airport related permissions repaired by this. I restarted and all seems to be working.

Apple AirPort Utility CommentaryNo Difference - Version: 5.3.1, 3/12/2008 04:38PM PST

I downloaded for 10.5.2 and had to set up my base station all over. I went to Speakesay and there in speed difference. An hour wasted doing two computers. If all is working well do not use this, unless there is a major update from Apple coming? That is why I did this ‘just in case’
I would recommed this update, for that reason.

Apple AirPort Utility Commentaryno firmware updates--standalones now avail. - Version: 5.3.1, 3/12/2008 02:35PM PST

As reported on MacFixIt, there aren't any new firmware updates for the base stations themselves. (I got the Windows version at work, and I watched it download the current firmware files, which included v6.3 for Airport Express, which is the current vers.)

But, the standalone installers and the apple web pages seem to be back up today (3/12).

I have never left feedback here before but I am baffled. Software Update informed me of this update. But I left it alone to download and it never arrived. I tried to collect it from the Apple downloads site and there it was not. I googled it and came here and collected it. But I saw the comment that it had been removed from the Apple site so I closed the updater and placed it in a folder for later. And now it is not here either? Weird. Leopard 10.5.2 on a MacBook Pro 17inch 2.4 Mhz

Apple AirPort Utility ReviewDO NOT upgrade firmware to 5.6!!! - Version: 4.2, 7/29/2005 12:59PM PST

rezaf
I updaed airport to 4.2 last week, then I upgraded firmware to 5.6 two days ago. Immediately after the FW upgrade neither my PB or my Linksys card on my Toshiba Laptop could pick up any signal (even withn 5 feet of my base station) After 25 minute troubleshooting with tech support and three hard and soft resets I got the thing to work, but my Powerbook has a very slow connection with 2 bars of signal, whereas previously I had 4 bars. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS UPGRADE
