This game is an enormous amount of fun. It's a great adaptation of Dungeons and Dragons, in which you steer a party of adventurers through all sorts challenges and battles. What really makes the game well-done is the huge number of side quests that continually keep you busy even as you try to make progress on the main quest. The NPCs that you can add to the party are also quite fun with distinct personalities and often funny banter. Every person I've talked to who has played this has had fond memories of playing it. They say that it is even better than the Neverwinter NIghts installments that follow. As for the OS X issues reported by others, I guess they were solved by Moore's Law if nothing else. I'm playing under OS 10.4 on a 1.6GHz G5 and having no problems with frame rate or whatnot even with everything maxed out. I have had a progressive problem with lockups when changing areas or apparent failures of pathing where the characters are virtually frozen. Eventually I had to shift to running it under Classic. Under Classic it's been okay but a little sluggish. Whenever it gets too sluggish in Classic, I switch back to OS X until it locks up. Annoying but working out so far. I haven't tried multiplayer so I can't comment on it. There are many websites where folks discuss their favorite characters and strategies. A good one is "http://www.angelfire.com/hero/tjekanefir/amn.htm"

I have the game installed on my iMac 400 DV special edition, running under the latest OS X 10.x.x. The game works, and and so does multiplayer. However, the multiplayer has failed to work on my G4-800mhz powerbook and G4-1.25ghz powerbook, which both are running under Jaguar (10.2.x)
The game is so much more beautiful under OS X... what a shame that we must play multiplayer in OS yukky 9. Yes, I play this game with my own superior characters. I passed it with the game's own characters, then made and worked on my own, and passed it again on my iMAC.
But I wanna play this game WITH my OWN characters, without the lagginess, under OSX! fix it fix it fix it!

to create a multiplayer game in OS X(just like the button isn't functionning at all! click on it, nothing happen, work fine in OS 9). I went to macplay site and found that I should remove all network interface except the one to be use with the game, but still doesn't work! It's not what I call built for, but adaptation in beta form! It p... me off to reboot in OS 9 to play this game cause I'm waiting a new powerbook (on wich I shoudn't be able to load OS 9). no more multiplayer with baldur's gate II! For improve performance, deselect the 3D rendering acceleration (wich doesn't work in OS X). I wounder why they wrote built for os X on the box? I would have write MAY work in OS X, beta form). Anybody know when the next update will be out? hope before my powerbook arrive!

previous review. Deslecting the "use 3d acceleration" check box in the setup program has solved my "kernel panick" problem. Decent enough graphics and a much better frame rate on my powerbook 667Mhz.

something works native in OS X without having to use the Classic environment, it's built for OS X. Granted, BG2 doesn't do a very good job of using OS X to run a faster and nicer looking game, but I don't consider anything on the box false advertising. My only complaints are the painful load time and the clunky interface. I'm running on a Dual 1GHz G4, and even with the graphics turned mid to low range, frames are dropped whenever I have the interface buttons showing. This makes it difficult to battle, and thus makes the game difficult to play without getting annoyed. As for the load time, it takes as long as 45 seconds for one area to load, and as long as 15 seconds to save -- that's just obnoxious. It says that if you do a full install, the game will run much faster, but a full install option isn't available in the installer. Hopefully the 1.2 or 1.something update will fix these problems, but somehow I doubt it...

this update was good, but now BG crashes like once an hour on average. Seems to happen most of the time when moving things around in the inventory. Also, all of my characters only get 1 HP when levelling up!! What's up with that??

update. My Baldur's Gate II used to crash sometimes on loading saves and such, and I think this is gone (though it happened so rarely anyway it's hard to tell). Only 4 stars because 3D acceleration is still broken ("ChoosePixelFormat failed")

pc computers and if you want to play with pc fools then become a fool. Don't spaz on us and who cares about 3D acceleration, all it does is make the effect faster and a tiny bit better in quality. Go to the pc side if you want that crap. The game is great and if you don't have cable or higher don't bother playing online. Play 10/100 with your little friends at your house or solve the problem yourself.

all of this! Is the UPDATE ok? I DON'T NEED A REVIEW/OPINION OF THE GAME ITSELF.
