Folder Icon X Reviewlong-time user, but... - Version: 3.0.2, 11/14/2007 03:26PM PST

I've always liked the simplicity and ease-of-use of this little app. Unfortunately, it looks like the developer has lagged way behind on it - nevermind Leopard compatibility, it hasn't really kept pace with Tiger. Hopefully we'll see some activity soon.

Meantime, if anyone can suggest an app that's just as easy (I don't have time to master killer icon creation apps - I just want plug & play and put away) as this one and will default to Leopard folder icons, please post!

I dont know where the info of UNIVERSAL BINARY comes, but as a matter of fact Folder Icon X is NOT. Hopefully soon it will be... :) For the time being, it runs fine on Intel Macs.

I'm really picky about icon creation and after a lot of searching on VT I've come back to Folder Icon X (was using a freeware CM not supported on intel). Not only has Folder Icon X improved, its also Universal Binary; I'm grateful to the Dev for maintaining the app and would recommend it to anyone needing a fine tune app for custom folder icons.

How is anyone's backup software supposed to know that
this application should be updated on their backup disks...
when the author keeps the modified date on Folder Icon X
at October 18, 2003? Why doesn't he set the modified date
to be the current date, with every public release!?!?

Folder Icon X ReviewContinued Support Appreciated - Version: 2.0.6, 4/3/2005 03:57PM PST

It seems like forever that I've been downloading improvements, tweaks, and bug fixes for thiis little app. It contrinues to do its specialized job very well. And I can't think of a better supported app since the introduction of OSX 10.0. The functionality of the contextual menu items are one of the special bonuses.

Folder Icon X CommentaryIt’s about choice - Version: 2.0.6, 4/3/2005 12:49PM PST

I’ve had no problem with Viou going postal as weaselboy describes. But the interface is more complex than the other icon apps. I also use Can Combine Icons which, in my opinion, is the easiest to use. The main difference between it and Folder Icon X seems to be that it uses sliders to adjust size and location where FIX uses coordinates. I’d like to see an app with both options: sliders are good for quick adjustments; coordinates are good for precise manipulation. CCI also has customizable folder and icon libraries which are quite handy.

Folder Icon X ReviewDoes what it says it does. - Version: 2.0.4, 3/9/2005 01:37PM PST

In spite of the updates for things like "moved a button 8 pixels to the right" this thing works like a charm. On the other hand, VIOU should be avoided like the plague. It will start replacing folder icons all over your drive with icons you never selected. Very bad code and a crappy interface to boot. Stick with Folder Icon X.

Folder Icon X ReviewWell, I like it - Version: 2.0.3, 3/4/2005 12:24PM PST

I looked at the description for Viou and it doesn't meet my needs. As to the quesrtion of tweaks, I prefer software that is in active development. Often, s/w that has not be revised " in quite some time" is abandonware.

This did exactly what I wanted it to do and the interface was clear and easy to use.

Folder Icon X CommentaryCan Combine Icons Much Better - Version: 2.0.2, 2/4/2005 09:44AM PST

Can Combine Icons is a much better program in my opinion. I have to wonder why Folder Icon X needs to be constantly updated and tweaked, yet Can Combine Icons has not been revised in quite some time and still works great. Also, there are more features in Can Combine Icons.
