Phoenix X ReviewA Fine Program - Version: 1.9.5, 3/4/2006 01:24AM PST

Lord Naughty
I've used this for years, and never had any problems. LJ's own update screen is much improved these days, so this program is not as necessary as it once was, but the interface is too nice to give up completely.

I used Phoenix all the time until I switched to OS X and tried iJournal. It was nice but I missed the features Phoenix had. I tried xJournal but the stupid thing only works for livejournal and no other ones. So, I got the latest version of Phoenix for OS X, 1.9.1. Quite frankly, I couldn't even get past the login screen. I hit tab and could not enter a password or go back and do anything to my username. Delete failed to work anymore, no keys worked anymore. I was forced to quit and try again. I checked and saw this tab problem claimed to be fixed, but apparently its still there. Once I did get logged in the program seemed sluggish, very slow with menus and the like. I'm running 10.2.8 on a Beige G3. While that does entail some slowness, this was much more than usual. I was sadly disappointed that my favorite program for Classic Mac wasn't up to par in OS X. I just can't seem to find a *journal program I like, so I'm hoping Phoenix pulls through these bugs soon. :)

Phoenix X ReviewBest LJ client available - Version: 1.8.6b, 12/14/2003 10:49PM PST

It's amazing how many poor reviews of Phoenix are from people who just happen to use another LiveJournal client.

I've used Phoenix ever since I started my journals and have found the interface to be full featured without being cumbersome, problems are fixed very quickly, and the performance to be excellent. I recommend that everyone with a LiveJournal download and at least try Phoenix out before deciding if it's good or bad.

The absolute best livejournal client for the Mac is not even on Versiontracker. It is called XJournal.

You can find it here: http://www.speirs.org/xjournal/

I don't know why it's not listed here, as this is where most people go to get their stuff. But it just means that a lot of people are wasting time and energy on clients with half of the features and ease of use of XJournal. I found it buried on the actual LiveJournal site, but it's nowhere to be found here on VT. Pity.

THIS PROGRAM. It is not reliable in any way, and can result in the inadvertent deletion of many parts of your journal, as it did mine. Use iJournal if you'd like an offline client. DO NOT USE THIS PROGRAM!

people are fussing about; I've found Phoenix (both classic and X) stable, reliable, easy and pleasant to use. Great job, and well worth the download.

in the extreme. To be avoided. FWIW iJournal (formerly called LiveJournal for OS X) is far superior and a cocoa app to boot.
