Product Description:

The unique audio recording software Melodyne offers a completely novel — and creatively, far more useful — way of accessing audio data than conventional music programs. With Melodyne, you can edit the pitch, timing, phrasing and formants of an audio file independently of one another, with total freedom; and when you hear the results, you’ll understand why Melodyne has won numerous awards for sound quality.

Melodyne is an invaluable aid in the professional recording studio for ironing out intonation and timing problems; whilst as a remix tool, it offers access to undreamed of creative possibilities for the manipulation of audio.

What's new in this version:

Today we have released version 3.2.2 of Melodyne studio and Melodyne cre8 as well as version 1.8.1 of Melodyne essential and Melodyne uno. With these updates all programs are now compatible to Apple's latest version of OS 10.5.1 (Leopard). Any problems related to the use of ReWire and the MelodyneBridge under Leopard have been solved. We also did some changes to increase the overall performance and stability of Melodyne and we included a solution to avoid problems when using the Spot-to-Pro-Tools feature with Pro Tools version 7.4. All users will benefit from these changes, with Leopard as well as with Tiger, Win XP or Vista. Read about all improvements in the PDF files for Melodyne studio, Melodyne cre8, Melodyne uno and Melodyne essential.

Melodyne CommentaryWorth every penny if you're a vocalist, or producer/record them - Version: 3.2.2, 3/14/2009 02:57PM PST

Superstitious
Yes, this software is really expensive. Unfortunately for the developers, tons of people pirate it, using the expense to justify that. It's circular. The fewer people buy it, the more the high price is justified in the eyes of the developers.

But, we're talking about their top tier app, here. There are less expensive less feature-rich versions of Melodyne available, like Melodyne UNO. If you have another multi-track program and just want to polish a vocal track, consider that one. There is also a plug-in.

Adobe Creative Suite is really expensive. Office is really expensive. Frankly, I think Melodyne is a much better value than Microsoft Office, and how many more people buy that?

This software's most impressive feature is how well it adjusts defects in vocal takes without sounding artificial. It can save a lot of studio time and studio time is expensive. If you're on a limited budget like I am, you can do a lot more songs because you don't have to do so many takes of each one.

One thing that I'm unhappy about, though, is that the Spitfish plug-in doesn't work in this version. It did work in 3.0.1.5. The audio units version of the plug-ins isn't seen at all, and the VST versions no longer work.

The price is prohibitive to even wanting to try it out. I think I'll stick to my ProTools. Thank you!

I already have ALL the great sound edit apps. I think I'll pass on this and buy a new computer instead.
