Product Description:

WinCompressX is a small utility that enables a feature in MacOS X 10.1 called Window Buffer Compression. This feature compresses the memory used by the windows that haven't been used for a period of time, which saves valuable RAM.
This feature wasn't enabled by default in 10.1 so this program will modify the correct preferences file to enable it. This only works on 10.1 or higher.

What's new in this version:

Changed version checking so that it will run on system greater than 10.1 (previous versions stopped working at 10.1.4). Prelimary testing shows that the current beta builds of Jaguar (10.2) doesn't have this feature enabled, so this hack "should" work on Jaguar as well, but I am not sure if the new Quartz Extreme video rendering makes this program useless or not. Nonetheless, I have modified it to work under 10.2.

The author has not specified the end version of OS for this.. but I'm pretty certain it should not be used above 10.1.5...

This worked great for me when I was running 10.1, but Jaguar and Panther both have their own types of window compression built-in. As of 10.1.5, this kind of mode ceased to be an option. They may not go about this with the same code or in the same manner as the 10.1.5 optional compression did, so using this to enable what already works in Jaguar or Panther, could cause them not to work anymore or to behave strangely--*Be warned*...

*DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE ABOVE 10.1.5*

Reviews back to ChrisG's comments and apply them. When you reboot your dispay will be reset to factory presets. No problem, this tells you you applied the data correctly! Nice work ChrisG, excellent in fact. Window resizing and moving about improved with ChrisG's code!!
