Whenever I try to save a file or even save-as a different filename, it says it can't do it. With no explaination.

It's quite good, as for the saving bugs, it still saves the file. Just make sure you push Enter after every change, then Save, it'll say it can't save, but it has.

great but if i click on the "allow editing" checkbox it unexpectedly quits, making this app mostly useless.

but it dies horribly on files bigger than 2GB.
I never used the program back in the day, so maybe back then it deserved its high rating; but these days it just a waste of bits.
