Product Description:

Hide your files from prying eyes! Black Magik File Hider is a fast and easy to use utility that allows you to "hide" selected files and folders on your Macintosh so that they cannot be seen by casual observers. File Hider can also be password protected so that only you can "unhide" your files. The password feature even allows you to enter a clue to make it easy to remember your password.

Simply drag your sensitive files or folders into File Hider's list and watch your files vanish. When you need to access one of your hidden files or folders, launch File Hider again, enter your password, drag the desired files out of the list, and watch your files pop back into existence.

File Hider X CommentaryGood point MacDefender... BUT! - Version: 2.2, 11/11/2007 01:30PM PST

Very helpful... especially since this is one of the most secure ways to prevent disclosure of your files (which could otherwise easily be displayed on your desktop or worse... a fully displayed image; important form; etc. if the Finder quits and reverts to what you were looking at recently EVEN IF THE FOLDERS/FILES ARE INVISIBLE/HIDDEN!). In addition to AES... I'd also add that you should definitely use an app like this one to prevent someone from 'accidentally' deleting the AES DMG by simply dragging it to the trash! Ouch! Or... if you already have XRay (or a similar app)... to change the flag on visibility so the folder/file is invisible, and then use an app like MainMenu in order to show-all/hide-all invisible files and folders when you need access to it.

File Hider X CommentaryWhy even consider to try this? - Version: 2.2, 11/4/2006 11:48AM PST

if you want to hide away your 'secret' files why not just create an AES128 DMG with Apples DiskUtility? It's not only free and included in your system for years it's also secure and fast. Just doubleclick your new dmg, enter your password and work with your files as usual. You just have to unmount you image to hide everything in it. This way you can easily (and fast) handle 100000 files and several GB of data.

File Hider X Reviewis this thing wonky? - Version: 2.1.1, 8/16/2006 05:35PM PST

I like the idea of it. But JEEZ its slow. I dragged 750 files into the folder first thing, and it took forever to hide them, and forever to set my password. Now, it takes forever to launch and even longer to let you access the file window. Mostly, I see a curser that looks like an old-style watch icon from the Mac OS 9 days. I am not sure I can recommend it. I am wondering if anyone out there has paid the 20 bucks and if registering it improves its performance.
