Product Description:

uControl gives you the ability to take those useless keys, that you're certain would have been better fashioned as something else, and turn them into something useful. It started out as a simple hack to remap the caps lock key to a control key, but has since evolved into a fairly sophisticated means of not only remapping modifier keys, but giving your trackpad a virtual scroll wheel, or giving lefties a sensible mouse, or giving people with disabilities the ability to type with one hand.

What's new in this version:

The Twerq feature has been removed due to possible patent violation. I encourage every one to sign the petition against software patents. Japanese localization has been partially added thanks to E-WA a member of iLocalizes.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2.x

Although still in early Alpha/Beta stage, it works to change the Al PB's extra Enter key to an option key, makes the Caps Lock key on internal and external attached keyboards into a Control key, and makes the right Control key on external keyboards into a Command key. Installed it yesterday and it works flawlessly. Find it here

uControl Usage TipChange Enter key with a hack - Version: 1.4.6, 5/29/2005 12:52PM PST

Try a hack to change the Enter key at http://www.snark.de/index.cgi/0007. It worked on my Titanium PowerBook G4 after I ran Repair Privileges, but as Shane notes, this tip works for ADB internal keyboard on older PowerBooks, but will probably not work for newer USB-based internal keyboards on PowerBooks and iBooks.

If you follow Heiko's steps at that link, you MAY still need to run Disk Utility and run Repair Privileges to get it to load.

I am Very Happy Now. That was one of the last Tiger-related fixes I've been waiting for to get my machine to feel like home again after the 10.4 upgrade.

MANY MANY MANY thanks to Shane at gnufoo.org for maintaining uControl for several years(?) and to Heiko at snark.de for the handy tip linked above.

Uh oh, I switched to Tiger (which is a good thing) but now uControl doesn't work (which is a /very/ bad thing).
