Product Description:

XRay is a flexible and powerful "Get Info" program for Mac OS X (10.2 and up). Access via Command-Shift-X, the Finder's contextual menu, icon drag&drop or the Services menu. Will accept third-party plugins for feature expansion.
Features:
  • Integrated file browser
  • View/change Type, Creator and Extension metadata and have immediate feedback on how they affect file-to-application binding
  • Type, Creator and Extension lists are loaded from the system's own databases, so you don't need to build or maintain anything
  • Set options by dropping a sample file or application onto the window
  • Change permissions, type, creator and some flags, or remove resource forks for all items in folders
  • View/change common and obscure BSD permissions
  • View folder sizes
  • View/follow/change/make aliases and symbolic links
  • Edit creation/modification dates
  • Edit Finder "labels" attribute
  • See format and interface for volumes
  • See detailed application or file type
  • Uses Administrator authorization if necessary
  • Generate reports
  • Move files to the Trash and empty it with privileges
  • On-line version checking
  • What's new in this version:

    Bug-fix release.
  • When batch removing resource forks from the "Change Type and Creator for Enclosed..." dialog, XRay now clears the "Custom Icon" flags for items that had it set. Leaving this flag set would cause a stream of warnings in Norton Utilities and similar disk checkers
  • The Contextual Menu Plugin, as well as any XRay plugins, now should appear as packages with the correct icon both in Jaguar and in Panther
  • A crash when closing windows under Jaguar has been fixed
  • Batch changing items has been speeded up about 30%
  • XRay wasn't seeing files trashed by the Finder under certain circumstances, this has been fixed
  • XRay's registration database and plugin folders in "/Library/Application Support" aren't world-writable anymore, as this was creating a possible security risk. As a side effect, XRay must now be run the first time from an Administrator account, and only Administrators will be able to register.

i licensed XRay shortly after it came out and still like it best, though i had been a solid File Buddy user in the legacy Mac OS; XRay is handy for fix-up work, but also for exploring file attributes; i hope Rainer is working on an upgrade that will let us look into the new Spotlight metadata and explore the new Tiger file type system

XRay ReviewThis is the best progam to have to equalize X with 9 - Version: 1.1, 10/20/2004 02:22PM PST

Rainer you have done a great job providing us with an excellent piece of software that Apple should have included - whether you like permissions or not - this is the one huge problem with OS X - is corrupt permissions like after you change a user or bring files over from a firewire drive and find they are read only... I for one, much like the only one out of X lepers who was healed by Jesus want to return after today purchasing a serial no. and thank-you very much. We appreciate the work you put into this great ap. Ian
