Product Description:

The function of these plug-ins is dual. On one side, you can create barcodes, and on the other side you can verify barcodes that are already in the artwork. The Illustrator version supports creation and verification of barcodes. The Acrobat version supports verification of barcodes. The plug-ins can also work in a demo mode, so that you see how the product works and you can check the quality of the generated barcodes. In the demo mode all barcode types can be used, but the codes can only contain the digits 0,1 and 2

Supported Barcodes:
  • EAN 8
  • EAN 13
  • Code 128
  • UPC/A
  • UPC/E
  • UPC/EAN 128
  • ITF 14
  • JAN 8/JAN 13
  • ISBN (Bookland)
  • ISSN
  • Marks&Spencer 7B

What's new in this version:

  • Some more Code 128 and EAN/UCC 128 that did not always generate the shortest possible code. This ones were related to a mix a few alfa numeric codes, and a lot of digits
  • EAN/UCC 128 did not correct process AI02 and AI37: these codes were rejected
  • Human readable Checksum digit of UPC/A and UPC/E is shifted to the left when add-on digits are used.
  • Right Quiet Zone Indicator is now position at the same height as the add-on human readable text (when applicable)

Barcode Toolbox Usage TipDoes work with Illustrator CS3 Intel! - Version: 3.6, 3/30/2008 04:34AM PST

Andre Klein
The trick is that you have to temporarily run Illustrator in Rosetta mode (= PPC emulation on Intel), otherwise the Barcode Toolbox plug-in won’t load. Select the Illustrator app icon -> Get Info -> Check "Open using Rosetta".

Remember to uncheck "Open using Rosetta" once you’re done with your barcode creation, in order to gain back full Intel-speed.

Barcode Toolbox Troubleshooting ReportCS3 Compatability - Version: 3.6, 8/23/2007 11:06AM PST

I have found this does indeed work with CS3, however only the PPC version.

The plugin will not load if you are using the Intel version of CS3.

So we beg, pretty pretty please update?

Barcode Toolbox ReviewFor the most part, good. Some bad. - Version: 3.6, 8/21/2007 06:14PM PST

Jason!
THE GOOD

I too have confirmed this still works with Adobe Illustrator CS3. It is also one of the few bar code generators to have the global insight to make codes other than those used in the blessed US-of-A. I applaud the developer especially for his work in enabled Japanese JAN code creation. The codes generated are very clean and the scaling and verification features are quite nice indeed!

THE BAD

1) Despite the claims of this being version 3.6, when you install the plug-in and launch Illustrator CS3, you will get a dialog asking for the serial. That dialog says its version 3.5. I suppose that dialog could simply be old, but there is no way to tell. Using Get Info on the plug-in doesn't tell you the version. And the interface inside Illustrator doesn't tell you either. So regardless of whether this download is the latest version or not, the fact is, we should be presented with an easier means to find out the version you are using, especially within the Illustrator interface.

2) The font size for the text at the bottom of JAN-13 codes is too big. It's about 1pt too big, in my tests. The text is so big, it quite nearly slams against the bars! This doesn't happen with UPC or other codes, so it's clear that this is a fontsize bug for JAN code creation. While I can hand-fondle the font sizes myself in Illustrator, it would be best if this tool properly sized them right in the first place. This is especially true when you generate a lot of bar codes. Why should I be forced to fond the text size of every single JAN-13 code I generate with this software! Please fix this ASAP!

3) This is a repeatable crashing bug. Sketch a bar code in Illustrator with this software. Click the pop-out menu. Choose Edit Font Replace. Don't do anything other than click the OK button. Illustrator CS3 will crash (suddenly quit) a second or two later. I've repeated this bug multiple times. It crashes my copy of Ilustrator CS3 (PPC version) every single time its tried.

If "THE BAD" can be fixed soon, I think that without a doubt, this will indeed be the number 1 choice for Mac using bar code creators world wide!
