Product Description:
SilverFast sets a new standard for Desktop-Scanners. SilverFast is high-end scan and imaging software from LaserSoft Imaging which is now available for most scanners under Mac. SilverFast combines an intuitive user interface with highest professionality. Beginners and professionals will appreciate the intelligent automatic functions as well as the possibility to manually adjust the image at any point. Since any operation can instantaneously be undone, the beginner can easily get aquainted with the software's interface. The professional user can adjust any operation via numerical input and can precisely monitor the results using a densitometer.

- New eciRGBv2 working space included in all SilverFast Ai/HDR/DCPro (Studio) versions
- Fully Automatic IT8-Calibration: Added a new feature that improves the IT8 calibration. The IT8 target will be recognized automatically and performs all steps until reporting success.
- Scan frame: Look of scan frame changed. Instead of cross-hairs for rotating half-arcs can be used now. Also active frame is blinking in order to be noticed easier.
- IMPROVEMENT: iSRD: iSRD now corrects even more image defects.
- BUGFIX: IT8 calibration: Corrected routines in IT8 calibration which formerly lead to trouble if the target had been placed mirrored on or into the scanner. iSRD: Improved prevention of possible artifacts occuring with use of iSRD with too high setting values.
What's new in this version:
- IMPROVEMENT:
- All flatbed scanners that can be IT8-calibrated: It is now possible to activate the new "Printer Profiling Wizard" by an appropriate serial number.
- IMPROVEMENT:
- CMS: Long file names of ICC profiles were listed truncated in the Option dialog's CMS panel. Now the full file name (without path) is used.
- General: Added a Service Button to the Universal Launcher so the User can easily enter the Service Mode that allows to reset the serial number, reset the Preferences or to copy the SilverFast logfile to the desktop for sending it to support.

The 1680 on firewire goes faster than anything I've ever seen. Silverfast Ai Studio scans a full A4 page in 15 seconds flat (300 dpi / 200 lpi). I wonder how that compares to a scsi connection. Feedback from scsi users please.

I don't know why people complain about this software. Lasersoft is very responsive, and Silverfast blows away the Epson scan modules. Vuescan has a much steeper learning curve than Silverfast too.

Using Epson 1680 SCSI w/ Adaptec 2930 SCSI card on G4 867 running Mac OS X 10.3 Panther. Runs well!!!
