ElectricSheep ReviewWorse than the previous version... - Version: 2.6.9, 10/8/2007 04:29PM PST

Same graphic tearing artifacts as the previous version on my 17" MacBook Pro and now there's an annoying quarter second pause between every sheep transition. I'm going to down-grade.

After one year using electricsheep I'm addicted. Always new and different. a constant suprise. Thank you Scott Draves. Use BitTorrent to accelerate the download of sheep. Check http://www.electricsheep.org/ for detailed info.

ElectricSheep CommentaryClarification on my review below - Version: 2.6.7, 8/18/2006 09:51AM PST

Although it took 48 hours before I used it, to be clear it was downloading unseen in the background during that time. I was using the computer normally, with no loss of speed. The computer was also going in and out of sleep. Didn't want people to think the computer had to be sitting open on the program that long!

ElectricSheep ReviewMy favorite screensaver ever! - Version: 2.6.7, 8/18/2006 09:31AM PST

Always changing, always evolving.

It does take forever for the first sheep to download. It took almost 48 hours before I could use it. But, after 2 days I had one working, and in the months since there are always new ones coming and old ones going without my doing anything. Over 5 months it's worked without a hitch.

Not sure it's the case for everyone who's had trouble starting it, but maybe it just takes some patience...

For some reason VersionTracker doesn't seem have a link to the developer site right now (it explains a lot, has examples, tips, etc.). It's www.electricsheep.org.

I just sent a donation, since I now use it all the time.

Really worth trying, very special and very beautiful. Just don't expect it to work in 5 minutes!

This is such a great screen saver. It was easy to download sheep. I used Azureus which is an excellent BitTorrent client. Both ElectricSheep and Azureus are free, but I donated to both gladly.

ElectricSheep CommentaryWhere did they go? - Version: 2.6.5, 2/27/2006 08:46AM PST

This is so beautiful that, once I had accumulated enough "sheep", I've pulled the little vignettes into iMovie, wrote a score on GarageBand and now have a four-minute movie that I'm very excited about. Now, I wanted to contact the creators for credit info and to share it with everyone, but their website seems to have vanished, or maybe Safari is acting up. I was even at a forum they have for it a couple of weeks ago but, duh, forgot to bookmark it.
P.S.: this screen saver accumulates the images it receives on a folder in your user library/application support/electric sheep. If your drive is very full, keep track because them sheep procreate a lot ;-)

ElectricSheep ReviewTrippiest screen saver I've ever seen - Version: 2.6.4, 1/18/2006 02:07AM PST

I'm not big on screen savers -- I usually like them very simple, if at all. But I was doing some research on fractals and came across ElectricSheep, and I am mesmerized. Absolutely beautiful and mesmerizing. I slowed down the frame rate so I can get a better look at the transitions.

Just to follow up on katmandu's comments in the previous posting, there doesn't appear to be an OS X release of version 2.6.5 on the developer's site, either. I think that what has actually changed is that there is now a universal binary release of version 2.6.4 available.

Still, I definitely agree with many of the other comments here -- this is an awesome screen saver! I run it on my G5 at work, and get asked about it all the time. Several co-workers have now installed it on their machines, too. (Not sure what that's doing to our overall productivity... :-)

Overall, a really great product. Configuration is pretty simple, and performance on my machine (1.8GHz, single G5) is excellent. I've been using ES as my screen saver for several months now, and have never experienced any stability problems.

Love this screensaver. However, this update (2.6.5) actually downloads v2.6.4.
