Product Description:

View and edit a wide range of file and folder information. Create droplet applications that automatically apply changes to items dropped on them, including the contents of folders. Find files and folders using an extensive set of search criteria. Enhance file searches with plug-ins that extend file search capabilities. Conveniently perform a wide variety of actions on found items. Make File Buddy your default file finding application using the File Buddy CP control panel. Modify the names of multiple files at once. For example, remove ".txt" from the names of a group of files. Use contextual menus to accomplish many tasks in a single step. Contextual menus are supported on all versions of the Macintosh operating systems.

What's new in this version:

  • The label menu was not available in the List windowÃ?¢â?‰?¢s contextual menu for the Label column. Fixed.
  • Cursor would not change over list headings in the List window to denote when a heading can be dragged off or resized. Fixed.
  • When using any of the renaming windows to rename files only, File Buddy would not rename bundled documents because even though they appear to be files when viewed in the Finder, they are considered folders by the file system. While not a bug, this would occasionally confuse users who didnÃ?¢â?‰?¢t understand why File Buddy wouldnÃ?¢â?‰?¢t rename a document. File Buddy will now treat bundled documents as files when determining if an item should be renamed.
  • File Buddy would ask you confirm if you wanted to move items to the Trash even when the number of items to be moved was less than the minimum to invoke this warning. Fixed.
  • Removed the message reporting the number of icons created from images if all were created successfully.

File Buddy CommentaryNot the one-stop utility I was hoping for - Version: 9.0.2, 10/29/2009 12:28PM PST

Rant...

I tried File Buddy in the hope it would let me fix a bunch of files' invalid permissions. No such luck. The permissions tags came up empty in FB's Info window with no way to change them. I downloaded BatChmod (freeware) and that did the job beautifully.

And Snow Leopard compatibility???

FileBuddy was ahead of the pack in the 1990's but it's been stagnant in recent years... probably for most of us not worth the price.

Sorry, SkyTag! I'll stick with free utilities that get the job done versus $40 commercial software with registration problems (see Pendragon's comment) that doesn't work as well as the free stuff.

File Buddy Troubleshooting ReportMust Continually Enter Serial Number - Version: 9.0.2, 9/26/2009 04:47AM PST

Nearly every time I launch FB, I get the advisory that I must enter my serial number. This occurs so often (about 90% of the time) that I now keep an alias of the File Buddy.fbAutoReg on my desktop.

I'm wondering if anyone is experiencing the same problem and if there is a fix.

I just wrote the developer. Should I get a response, I'll post the relevant details.
