Product Description:

PassGenX generates passwords containing up to thirteen digits or characters, and defaults to an eight alphanumeric password. It uses a random function to generate a password and puts this password in a field used to copy and paste into your password field for your service.

You have the option to select a password using more or less alphanumeric characters. Select the number in the popup menu, and click the "generate another" button. A new password is generated each time you click the "generate another" button, so if you don't like what you get the first time, keep trying.

PassGenX ReviewDoesn't do anything fancy at all - contrary to other review - Version: 1.0, 1/2/2006 04:06AM PST

All this program does is generate an 8 chaarcter alphanumeric password and let you copy it to the clipboard. It has no configuration options at all and a very blotchy interface in Tiger. Doesn't generate passwords from a master and key - see my reply to this previous review.

Try RPG - much better (albeit very simple) interface, more features.

Am using Tiger btw.

PassGenX ReviewUseful tool to manage many accounts - Version: 1.0, 5/14/2005 09:53PM PST

By using a particular master password and generator pattern on a username, service name, or whatnot, PassGen produces a reasonably secure pw that you can reconstruct if necessary (if you input the same parameters again). You get to select the level of complexity/security. As a sysadmin, this easy-to-use tool lets me assign passwords that are possible for users to remember (there is always a mnemonic element to them) and more secure than people tend to select on their own. This system also makes it possible for more than one admin (by using the same master password, pattern, and method for selecting the base name) to generate or reconstruct consistent passwords.

Passenger is another useful tool by the same author that incorporates the same password scheme for managing user accounts on servers.

Isn't it a bit weird that 75 % of the passwords start with the letter "y" in lower or upper case?
