Griffin iMate X Troubleshooting ReportHow do you uninstall this software? - Version: 1.5.3, 2/14/2008 12:00AM PST

rockinkat
Hey,

Anyone here know what files need to be deleted to uninstall this software? I had the iMate working under 10.5 untill the drivers were installed, now it just causes the computer to stop responding to any kind of keyboard or mouse untill I reboot it when I have the imate hooked up.

Griffin iMate X CommentaryReadMe Quote - Version: 1.5.3, 8/25/2006 07:10PM PST

Charles Gaudette
partial quote from Griffin iMate X v1.5.3 "ReadMe.rtf" (mod. date 23 Aug 2002):

Driver Compatibility
At the time of the release of this driver, there were only a few ADB drivers available. Mac OS X includes an ADB mouse and keyboard driver. Also Kensington has released a version of their Mouseworks driver (http://www.kensington.com/) for their trackballs and mice. The iMate OS X driver is currently compatible with with the built in mouse and keyboard drivers as well as the Kensington Mouseworks driver.

Mac OS X also includes ADB drivers for the audio controls on the Apple Adjustable keyboards and AV displays as well as drivers for geometry and calibration adjustments for the AppleVision and ColorSync displays. However these drivers do not appear to function in the current Mac OS X release (10.0.4). They do not work with either the iMate or built in ADB (on B&W G3s) at this time.

Fixes/additions for 1.5
  • Sleep should now work
  • Generally more robust
  • Added new User Client code for applications to communicate with ADB devices
Known Issues
  • OS 9 ADB drivers and applications that communicate with ADB cannot be used with the current iMate OS X driver. This feature may be added in future versions of the driver.

Griffin iMate X ReviewBitterly disappointed - Version: 1.5.3, 5/1/2006 05:54PM PST

this is the response I got from Griffin Technology:

"The iMate is not supported in OS 10.4. Apple has removed more and more
support for serial device in every iteration of the OS. If it is not working
for you, I suggest you return it to the vendor from whom you purchased for a
refund.
Thanks"

They are now turning down customers??? This has been such a waste of time and money for me. All I was connecting to the machine was a simple keyboard and mouse.

And here is my response
"http://griffintechnology.com/support/imate/IMATE-012.php

Here it says that the iMate is supported in OSX. Why wasn't it stated that it isn't supported in OSX 10.4?
I spent more money on shipping the iMate than the iMate cost me! I am not about to spend the same amount of money to send it back. Very very disappointing. OSX 10.4 has been out for about a year now, why hasn't this support issue been stated? Why hasn't the software been updated? Can the iMate driver not include numerous drivers for various serial drivers? or guide us to a site that has these available for download? This is Griffin Technology's job to do as supplier of this kind of device. To keep support for it ongoing.

I need a reply, or a direct refund, you can pay for postage."

Griffin iMate X ReviewDoes tech-support have a brain? - Version: 1.5.3, 2/12/2004 03:53PM PST

After having some problems with a barcode scanner, I decided I needed to uninstall the iMate software to see if it would work without the software.

I fired off an email to tech support outlining my problem, what I had tried to troubleshoot it, and how to uninstall their software.

2 days later, I get a lame-brained response saying that using a hub was a problem, and to uninstall the software.

Keep in mind that in my message to tech support, I told them that I had tried eliminating the hub from my setup, with no change, and had asked them for the procedure to remove their software.

Guess they can't read.

I am waiting another 2 days for a response to my second request for instructions on how to remove the software, that I asked for the first time around, that was apparently ignored.

variety of Mac problems with USB are "solved" with such a solution (FC readers, some printers, assorted other Griffin products, etc. etc.). Unfortunately it's useless if someone has 4 or 5 devices that "require" it. Hubs? Good luck. I'm continuing to use the previous "version of 1.5.3" with no problems and my iMate, with its too short cord, remains plugged into the keyboard. The "best" (questionable term) remains what I've done with many G4 towers: buy a cheap 4-port PCI USB card, 1.1 or 2.0, assuming you have a slot for that. Good comment though. But the fix for this issue can't be all that complicated and this version should be avoided unless it meets specific needs as outlined by the vendor. "Update" does not necessarily mean "better," something users have difficulty understanding sometimes.

everyone who cannot figure out the CD drive opening dilemma. Here is what I have found through extensive trial and error testing on all sorts of G4 machines. The CD drive will cease to open on it's own if the iMate adapter is plugged directly into one of the USB ports on the back of the machine itself, NOT the keyboard or another USB HUB device.

by a comment in the Read Me file, "...OS 9 ADB drivers and applications that communicate with ADB cannot be used with the current iMate OS X driver. THIS FEATURE MAY BE ADDED IN FUTURE VERSIONS OF THE DRIVER..." Since Wacom continues to refuse to develop or release ADB-compatible drivers for OS X, it would be terrific if SOME accomodation were made available to make this legacy equipment useful again. After all, Wacom's anti-service, profiteering tactic makes my iMate as obsolete as my Intuos tablets. Griffin developing a way to use a Classic driver would make the iMate useful again. When I can use the iMate with my tablet I'll be able to offer a star-rating.

ADB drivers, this depends on who made your ADB product. For example, Wacom seems to have no intention of creating an OS X native ADB driver for their tablets. But for an Apple keyboard, you could probably get the ADB keyboard drivers from the XPostfacto installer, which I know has something to make ADB work on the old beige 'puters...
