Product Description:

ForgotIt? manages all these passwords you barely can remember and have almost forgotten. Instead of writing them down on little pieces of paper that "...must be somewhere, but where?", you can can now put them in one secure place! ForgotIt? uses strong Blowfish encryption to ensure that nobody else gets your passwords, PINs and whatever else you have to remember nowadays. Have only one password instead of dozens!

What's new in this version:

  • Built-in compression of password lists (available from the encryption scheme menu when you click on the little lock icon in the main view)
  • Hiding passwords in main list view (available as an option in the preferences dialog)
  • Copy fields like Login or Password to the clipboard directly from the main list view; use command-option-1 to 4 to copy the items when an entry is selected in the list)
  • Password entries can now be moved in the main list view
  • More encryption schemes provided by Einhugur Software
  • Many bug fixes and a Mac OS X version

ForgotIt? X CommentaryIs there ever going to be an update? - Version: 1.4.1b4, 7/24/2008 12:32PM PST

James Hayward
I love this app and have been using it for so long that I'm scared that it is end-of-lived. There is mention on his website that there is a version two in the works, but that has been there for a couple of years now. No more returns of email as well. Has anyone had any luck moving a large amount of data from this product to another similar but recent application? The thoughts of copy/pasting the thousands of fields one by one to another app seem insurmountably bothersome. Please Erich, update this application with a better find function and a better export function. Thanks!

This is one of the better, more simple & easy-to-use password managers I have found. I have been using it for several years and have had NO problems. I highly recommend it.

ForgotIt? X CommentaryDownload / Security of Blowfish Encryption - Version: 1.4.1b4, 3/18/2004 06:54AM PST

  • If the download doesn't work, that's due to a mime type problem. Control-click the link and select Save Link Target As... (or similar depending on the browser you're using).
  • You can hardly know for sure wether 560 bit Blowfish encryption is secure because:
    • The author (that is, me) could have introduced a backdoor. In fact, I haven't, but unless you completely reverse-engineer the program you cannot be sure. It's a matter of trust. (Note that open source software makes it much easier to create Trojan horses, so it's doubtable that they are in fact more secure.)
    • There is no publicly known formal proof of security for symmetric encryption algorithms like Blowfish. They are just considered secure by most cryptographers. Again, wether you rely on their opinions and their methods is a matter of trust.
  • For highest security, I recommend using 448 bit Blowfish in Counter Mode with compression switched on.
