to get from dialog with data entry to using the entered data in your scripts. Tried Troi - liked it, but seemed too complicated to get the data out of the DL result and play with it (could be my naivity). This is much easier. However, it would be really nice if you could have icons in the DL - one point off
After a run-through…

with 24u's nice little tutorial, and some fiddling with my own scripts: This plug-in is comparable to Troi Dialogue 3.1: Both allow scripts to specify dialogue boxes with "smart" text drawn from fields and calculations (filling in a real FMP gap), and to request user input in dialogue-box form, including bullet-style password input. Entered data can be retrieved and used in subsequent script steps. Troi also includes "flash" messages, customized dialogue placement and progress bar functions, as well as custom alert icons, while this 24u version includes checkboxes and radio buttons -- ideal for login-style scripts. The 24u version is well-named: it's a bit simpler in range of functions, but it's $15 less, and looks more straightforward to learn.
I have mostly avoided plugins for a organization wide solutions because the pricing has been prohibitive but for a FileMaker Pro 7 rework I should be able to sell my boss on this. With FMP 7's excellent window handling I could build pretty good dialogs but for $365 we're better off with the plugin.
