Product Description:

The Keyspan Digital Media Remote is a powerful infrared remote which allows you to control multimedia applications on your computer in the same convenient way that you now control your home TV. Great for PowerPoint, QuickTime, DVD players, CD players, and MP3 Players! How it Works... The Keyspan Digital Media Remote controls your multimedia applications by sending them the same keystrokes that you do when you control the application from the keyboard. For example, if your program uses the "N" key to advance to a new slide, the Keyspan DMR Remote Control can send the same key to your application allowing you to control your application from across the room.

Keyspan Digital Media Remote Troubleshooting ReportGlobal volume not working again? - Version: 2.1, 11/11/2004 01:47PM PST

The global volume keys again don't seem to work for me. I'm not sure when this started. Has anyone else seen this? Mute works, but not voiume up and down. Further trying to set a button to press a keystroke used by the program PTHVolume doesn't work either. I have it set to cmd-opt-ctrl-up and cmd-opt-ctrl-down, but these keys seem to be passed to the forground application when the DMR invokes them. Manually pressing those keys works as expected - i.e. they are picked up by PTHVolume and the volume is raised or lowered. I'm running 10.3.6 and DMR version 1.7

Keyspan Digital Media Remote Troubleshooting ReportProblem with DMR controlling background app - Version: 2.1, 8/24/2004 10:28PM PST

DMR work great when iTunes is in the foreground. I'm having a problem, however, when iTunes is in the background. I'm using the JVC remote file. Despite configuring multiple buttons (global action) to fire applescripts or keystrokes using sizzlingkeys, only one (past_forward) actually invokes the script or keystroke when iTunes is in the background. All buttons work fine when iTunes is foreground. Strange. No help from Keyspan support. I'm using DMR 1.7 with 10.3.4.

Keyspan Digital Media Remote CommentaryGlobal volume finally fixed - too late - Version: 2.1, 8/17/2004 12:49PM PST

pooh (pooh corner)
Hmm, this is a little sad really. After me complaining for a fix for the global volume controls and finally getting it I do not need them anymore. Why? I bought an Airport Express (recommended!) where iTunes controls the volume. A nice tip for others in this situation: use SizzlingKeys (can be found on versiontracker). Using this nice piece of software I linked several global F-keys to iTunes controls (volume, tracks) and I configured the Keyspan DMR to the same keys. Now I can control iTunes and sound volume using the DMR without the requirement to have iTunes in the foreground. Nice.
