Presentation Prompter ReviewSolid Product - Version: 4.2, 7/22/2008 07:01AM PST

I have looked at and/or purchased most of the teleprompter software for OSX. This one is head and shoulders over all of them. It is written using the OSX programming features, which means the text flows smoothly, it is rock solid, and looks and feels like an OSX application. Don't worry about running multiple screens, this software is so good at operator input you won't miss it. You can scroll the text with your finger on a trackpad, have it roll by with very good control on speed and speed changes, and best of all it supports chapter markers to go directly to a predefined location. Text is imported at standard sizes (12 point) and scaled up to fit on screen in % fashion. This is done through the quartz imaging system and looks great.

It imports MS Word documents without any hassle, which is a big time saver for me. I used it on a recent project and it proved itself under the stress of production. In comparison to others I have purchased:

iPrompter - clunky interface, lots of trouble importing files, useless editor
Script Q - imported from windows, runs badly and crashes, windows interface, expensive

I highly recommend this product.

Most computer-based prompter tools give the operator a separate control screen that shows the text correctly and includes the speed controls. I have an ancient prompter that still runs in System 7 on an old LC3 that does this.
I cannot find anything in the information or the demo for PresentationPrompter that says this fundamental feature is available. Without a control panel, I find it impossible to run this for my clients. I suppose I could get accustomed to the inverted-reversed display but if I'm going to buy prompter software, I'd rather have this feature on board.

I tried all of the Teleprompter software I could find for OS X. This one is the best because it is simple to use, works very well as advertised, and is a great value. It imports Word documents flawlessly. Some others I tested including IntelliPrompter costing $349-$649 was not as good! I will use this on a PowerBook with a Griffin Technology PowerMate knob and a iKan VPT8000 kit that includes an 8" touch screen VGA (mac compatible) monitor and camera mount. They only offered Windows software. Worth the price and better than the others costing much more.
