Product Description:

Patent Grabber makes it easy to download U.S. patents and PCT published applications for free from public patent archives. Instead of going to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office or European Patent Office web site and loading and printing patent or application pages one at a time with your web browser, you simply give Patent Grabber a list of patents or PCT applications and click "Get Patents." Patent Grabber then downloads every page of all the patents or applications to your Mac while you do something else. And once the patents are downloaded, they are yours to keep and print from Patent Grabber's special Library folder at any time.

What's new in this version:

  • PCT applications for 2004 and later can now be downloaded (they had switched to a four-digit year in the publication number without informing me!).
  • Patents are now downloaded into a folder called “Patentsâ€? instead of “Library.â€? The word Library has a specific meaning in Mac OS X, so the users who complained about Patent Grabber’s use of Library should now be happy.
  • The Patents folder is created in the user’s Documents (on Windows this is “My Documentsâ€?) folder instead of inside the Patent Grabber folder. Preferences are now saved in the user’s Preferences folder (however, on Windows this might end up in your root directory).
  • A bug which prevented downloading if “PCT/EPâ€? was selected as the starting set of buttons in the Preferences has been fixed.
  • The “Paste Listâ€? button now offers several options if it detects a space in the list that you are trying to paste. It can extract numbers from a sentence and paste them one per line as is required to download patents.
  • There is now a US Patent Search screen. If this proves to be popular, I may try to add searching for other archives.
  • A comprehensive set of instructions is now included.

Patent Grabber CommentaryHave you tried Google? - Version: 5.0, 1/15/2007 08:05PM PST

I've had it with "easy to use" patent software.
I now go here for my searches: http://www.google.com/patents

After multiple attempts in printed books and Mac software, on Google I found my grandfather's patent from 1938, downloaded it, and now have it printed here in my office.

Thanks Google.

Anyone considering Patent Grabber or any other patent downloading program should check out the fast-developing and already-excellent PatentDownloader.app, a Cocoa program and probably the best of the breed (and free). Sorry, guys.

Patent Grabber CommentaryAn alternative - Version: 3.2.2, 4/8/2006 10:08AM PST

As someone who has consulted on patent cases, I have tried a number of approaches including the TIFF plug-in mentioned by the USPTO. While Patent Grabber works, I have found the additional $9 for Pronto Patent (also available through VT) to be a better solution giving single .pdfs that can be stored for each case.
