A simple replacement command line tool for the pax utility, which archives and restores from Mac OS X HFS+ volumes. hfspax has complete support for resource forks and Finder info, unlike other tools.

problem with ustar. Is this tool still being maintained? I'd love it if it would be really reliable. The developer page seems down: it sends you to the standard FileSharing page. Wouldn't it be an idea to make it open source, so as to have more people working on it?

cpio" option for the archive format seems to be important; the default "utar" archive does not work at all for me. Otherwise, a great tool!

choke on permissions. cpio choked on some files too though, which may have had a lot to do with it. I'll write some scripts and try it again before I review it, though. Still no BackXWing, no working Retrospect (chokes on permissions)...getting pretty anxious about backups.
