Z-Write Troubleshooting ReportNo 'What's new'????? - Version: 1.5b13, 3/30/2007 01:03PM PST

with so cruel reviews, I expected that the author would be at least so humble to tell us which efforts he made to come out from this Iraqui disaster, to give us at least a hope, to push us to give it another try.. but if the mentality is so 'bush-like' (yes, NOT capitalised!!) ... better look around for other products.

Z-Write CommentaryUsed to love it, reluctantly have to refuse it... - Version: 1.5b12, 8/30/2006 11:09AM PST

Unfortunately, I must agree w/the most recent negative comments. This was my favorite word processor, particularly for organizing interview notes for long, complex feature stories. But the program has not kept up with changes in the OS, and the many bugs have made it too cumbersome to use. I haven't used mine since a series of odd quirks that include SLOOOWWW typing. (The developer said this was fixed, but the problem never went away on my desktop.)

It is absolutely unusable.

A shame!

Z-Write CommentarySave your money, this is crap-ware - Version: 1.3.1, 8/29/2006 12:33PM PST

I've always liked Z-Write, but I don't use it. I've been a registered user for several years, but I've never gotten much use out of this app. Why? Because there seems to be no end to the quirks and BUGS in this program. And, the author is obviously in no hurry to fix them.

Foolishly, in June of 2004. I paid for the upgrade from 1.3 to 1.5 which included a FREE upgrade to Z-Write version 2.0, as a purchase incentive. The promised release date for v2.0 was 2005! We long ago blew past that date and 2.0 is still not to be seen. I asked the developer for my money back, several times, and, of course, got no response.

On the Z-Write Website, the uses marketing copy with a lot of promises, but believe me,
he delivers next to nothing. I would NEVER have purchased a license to ZW if I had known how the developer treats his customers. The author had NO plans to support this app and it shows. He cares NOTHING about those who pay for a Z-Write license.

IMO, you'd be better off writing with crayolas on the sidewalk than to buy Z-Write.

If you need an app for writing, try Jer's Novel Writer, or CopyWrite. Both are light years ahead of Z-Write. Jer's NW is especially nice. And they both work, NOW. They're not beta-ware, or, more honestly—crapware—like Z-Write.

I finally tossed v1.5 because of the bugs. I went back to v 1.3.1, and IT stays closed. What a nightmare this has been.

Both the website and this beta are extremely out of date. All of the good things I said in my last post have expired. I guess the programmer found better things to do. Highly unresponsive to emails. Don't pay for this unless better attention and care for this product are shown by its author!

Z-Write Commentarynot really for writers - Version: 1.5b9, 11/2/2004 12:47PM PST

Few bugs in this (like telling us it can't find the default file even though its where it says it ought to be) but my main problem is that you can't just state its a word processor designed for the creative writer - you actually have to design it for the way writers think. This, like most of the other alternative word processors and the plethora of project manager software, is designed for the way computer enthusiasts think.

If you just want the easiest writing experience so you can devote your efforts to being creative, try Manuscript or, if you're up for a bit of a learning curve, Miss LonelyNotes.

Z-Write CommentaryWell, OK! - Version: 1.5b5, 6/3/2004 11:12AM PST

Don't know much about this type of tool, but downloaded it and worked with it for an hour. First, I organized and started a complicated report. Then, I played with an idea for a novel and had the structure set up and a couple of sections written.

Not bad for an hour. Seemed very useful and intuitive to me.

YMMV,

Rick

Z-Write ReviewBetter tools ... - Version: 1.3.1, 9/26/2003 11:40AM PST

This tool had a lot of potential but just stopped moving. I tried Ulysses for the 30-day-trial period but it was too expensive and had (still has) some problems. About a month ago, a company called Barats Technologies put out something called CopyWrite. I used it for like three hours and paid for it right away. Even for the 1.0 version that kind of had some bugs. A week later, they updated it. A week after that, they put out 1.1 which added a lot more features. I've been using this app sicne it came out and I've said before, I'll gladly pay again for the next major version. It's $20 and works a hell of a lot better than Z-Write (Z-Write guys, PLEASE catch up!) and, IMO, better than the $100 Ulysses.

It's here http://www.bartastechnologies.com/copywrite/
