Product Description:

Maybe you enjoy the classic game of cribbage, but you've often wondered what would happen if you, for instance, received 2 points for 14s instead of 15s. Or if you could peg to a number besides 31. In my new cribbage game, titled Cribbage Plus!, you an customize your game with these and many other optional rules too! For the purists out there, if you wish to play pure, standard cribbage, no problem! The game defaults to the standard rule set. However, if you wish, you may apply the following customizations:
  • Count other numbers instead of 15. This can also be randomized so that it is a different number each hand!
  • Peg to other numbers instead of 31. Just like the 15s, this can also be randomized for each hand.
  • Swap a card with your opponent each hand.
  • Peg points for flushes! This adds a whole new element to pegging strategy.
Play against three difficulty levels (if you choose to register). Keep track of your win/loss record, your average scoring habits, and more statistics! Earn achievements by making spectacular plays, and unlock different tables to play on! For further information, visit http://www.guslindquist.com/software.html. Or, send any questions, comments, ideas, bug fixes, or general rude remarks to support@guslindquist.com.

What's new in this version:

  • Fixed a bug causing the bevel buttons below the cards to not function properly when clicked on for selecting crib cards.
  • Fixed a bug causing the game to sometimes incorrectly assign opening lead on 2nd and subsequent games.
  • Fixed bug causing Cribbage Plus! to think MacOS 10.6.0 was actually earlier than Leopard (and adjust according to Tiger's constraints)
  • Added ability to earn Achievements.
  • Added multiple table backgrounds, unlocked by obtaining achievements.
  • Added a menu option to check for updates and download if desired.
  • Added the version number to the "about" screen.
  • Removed the default status from the "close" button on the Records window.
  • Fixed a minor bug where the records window wouldn't update right away with a change in profile.
  • Added a preference to choose to hide the "suggest play" button.
  • Added a preference to have the option to always have your dealt cards ordered sequentially.
  • Program now stores a hash xml file, which validates the averages, records, and new achievements xml files. This way, anyone who tries to edit such files to cheat will invalidate the files.
  • Text that displays the cribbage "count" numbers, that is, 15 for 2 points, or 31 for max count and 2 points, is now invisible unless the count is either non-standard, or randomized.
  • Cleaned up the cribbage board graphic further, adding numbers, an S for the skunk, "Start" and "Finish".
  • Resumed support for MacOS 10.4.x (must redownload within the app).
  • Minor bug fixes

Cribbage Plus! ReviewYes, finally, effective cribbage on OS X - Version: 1.1, 10/31/2009 02:14PM PST

I too have bemoaned the lack of a good cribbage application for OS X (to replace the simple & fast version I'd been using on OS 8 and 9 and 10.3 -- but with OS 10.5, my current system, no "classic" back-compatibility is available). Gus Lindquist's version is clean and snappy -- in my estimation, it's worth the shareware fee.

Cribbage Plus! ReviewAt Long Last a Cribbage Game For Mac OSX - Version: 1.1, 10/30/2009 12:39PM PST

I have played crib for some 50 years. On a Mac I started with a game which ran on my Mac Plus. With the advent of OSX the quality and availability of crib games went down the toilet. Some developers tried but it never amounted to much. This Developer has succeeded where others have failed. Not too fancy graphics not many bells and whistles. One is able to almost feel and imagine players around the kitchen table going at it hour after hour. The game plays just like one would if the cards were real. I am sure this may not suit all but most avid crib players are at this end of life. Nice and solid and it works without even thinking. The only down side to all this I can only award 5.5 stars out of 5. Pity !!

Great idea...I love it. I like the challenge of being able to change how points are awarded. And the God-Like feature is top notch...almost impossible to beat, but a great challenge. thanks for developing!
