I guess I jumped to a "calls home" conclusion; I just discovered that I checked the "Check for updates on load" box. :o
VERY betaware, breaks in Safari v4.04, messes up OmniWeb - Version: 1.6b4, 11/23/2009 12:21AM PST

I'm glad this is still considered to be in beta. When I first tried it in Safari I was glad to see all the lousy Flash garbage hidden away and under my control. But then I found that ClickToFlash doesn't so much work with Safari as it works with WebKit. This leads to major problems with OmniWeb, my web browser of choice. I could find no way to stop the mess it was making except to turn off the plugin within the Omniweb preferences. Trying to turn it off within the ClickToFlash settings was a total failure. But sadly, having turned it off in OmniWeb, it permanently broke in Safari v4.0.4. I have no idea how this occurred. Uninstalling the plugin then reinstalling, trashing the preferences for both the browser and plugin, then reinstalling, did not solve the Safari problems. IOW, it is now completely inert.
Conclusion: Having broken the thing, I'm uninstalling it again until the next beta is released.
User beware. But that's normal for betaware.

And this is all set by the developer; users are given NO option.
