PDF Checkpoint is a new solution to automate PDF production workflow with powerful batch processing:
preflight, route according to preflight results, export as images, split, reduce file size of multiple PDF files.

Preflight PDF files
Quickly preflight multiple PDF files using customizable preflight profiles and get detailed info on document fonts, color spaces, images and attributes.
Route files according to preflight results
PDF Checkpoint will automatically move or copy PDF files to specified success and error folders after preflighting. It can also generate a preflight report for each file.
Export PDF pages as images
Batch export PDF files into various image formats, in RGB, CMYK or Grayscale color space. Specify desired image resolution and page scale.
Split files into single page PDF documents
Automatically split multiple PDF files into single page PDF documents.
Downsample and compress images
Downsample and/or compress images in PDF documents to reduce file size. Specify image resolution and compression level.

What's new in this version:

FIXED: The Route Files action didn't work if the Save Successful Reports option was unchecked. This issue is fixed.
Full compatibility with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard (the Optimize Images functionality has been restored).

Not really universal, preview won't work without rosetta. Also, since it uses xpdf as its pdf engine, I guess the code will be available under the GPL when it ships version 1.0 ?
